I'm looking into buying a new Centerpin reel. Just wanted to see what colours others would pick if they had a choice. I'm leaning towards gold...
-
I have a gold Islander as my first pin, but have seen the green Steelheader and it is a beauty. Next though will likely be a Milner so it will likely be silver.
-
Purple
Or Purple
But if that wasnt available, then purple.
-
I will have to agree with the purple reel, its quite an eye catcher.
Plus its very unique.
I use a silver milner and i might get it dusted a different colour.
-
I have a gold islander its nice looking, but wish i got black more stealth looking. There is a member on this forum that has a pink or purple reel...i think its pink that looks pretty cool. eye catcher. I cant tell if its light purple or pink. look on page 14 of the fish porn thread. nice looking reel
-
Depends on the color of the blank Green Blank Green reel
-
Forget the colour and get something with a history. Like an old Milner or the like.
-
Are you guys fashion models or fishermen. ::)
Color doesn't matter to me, how good it works does. ;)

:D x2 my islander is black because that's what they had... I just knew I wanted an islander
-
Important to match the pin with the colour of the fishing vest, fishing jacket and baseball cap. All about looking chic on the river
-
John Milner Manx is a sexy color. Gold + Blue

Exactly.... I need to get a pair of neoprene waders so i can show off my thighs ... i dont want all those squats and dead lifts to go to waste!
-
I like hearing the swish swish swish of the breathables from my thunder thighs

Great Thread??
I'm sorry but color does matter to me! I went with silver cause it matches my whole outfit. I represent my brands big time! I had a custom Simms jacket made so that it's skin tight so it showed off the guns and the man pecs with SIMMS right across the back and Simms G4 waders 2 sizes too small so it makes my butt look good. I also had SIMMS in large lettering put down 1 leg so that the fish knew I wasn't cheap and that I mean business when I'm in the water. You won't catch fish if you don't have the reel color right! :D :D

Not me. Id rather have a purple walmart reel than an islander, any day!
Sarcasm aside, if I had a choice, I would take Purple/Blue/Black over any other colours. That being said, if it costs me a single dime more, eff that!
People still like to give me flack because I have a pair of the Simms G3 guide waders, with the super special and functional camo pocket dealy. I think the camo is the only difference between the normal and limited edition versions, and an extra 50 dollars! Except, mine were only 250, and a present. Options are nice, but for me, they better not cost extra if they dont add any functional value!
But if someone wants to pay for powder coating, or extra for a different colour, i wouldnt hold it against them. Especially if its a bad my friend royal purple pin or fly reel!
-
If u cared enough about the color of ur truck/car when u bought it then match it if not who cares
-
Forget matching. Forget what anyone else wants, just pick the color you like best.
-
Gold it is!

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOURNS!

Where did you get all that gear? I got some serious shopping to do...
-
Depends on the species you go for with your pin. i have a black islander but i would go for slate!
-
Get some bling, and don't forget about matching man-purse.
-
Get the reel that will procude the least flash and one colour that will hide all the knicks on it.

Silver color will hide all the knicks on it...

With all the chat about Knicks on the reel, I just have one question. Do you guy tow your reels behind the truck when you go to the flow?
-
Purple or blue blue being my number on i think king pin makes a sik blue

I'm hard on gear. Ever since I could walk, if anyone is going to break something it'll be me. I guess at 6'5 250lbs. And sometimes fishing 4-5 days a week, yea I guess my reel looks like it was dragged behind my truck.
I blame it on all those sexy fish that make me put my rod on the rocks to take pics with them. ;)

i will be getting another one with a purple spool over an idk what colour backplate yet but its gonna look killer

x 2
nothing like having a mirror finish in low sunny condition to announce to the fish you've arrived...and it's true a dull or anodized finish will hide nicks and scratches more than a bright powder coated reel.

Looking into buying my first pin, probably the kingfisher 4 3/8. What colour you ask?? Whatever colour I can get the quickest, can't wait to get on the river and pull my hair out Bc of birdsnests!
Looked on milners site and it had part about adding a line guide, is this useful or worth it? (Little off topic sorry)
Thanks guys

I emailed John a week ago asking whether there are any advantages to a fully caged reel such as the Talisman. Here is his reply:
"There is some benefit to the cage. It helps prevent the line from blowing over the side of the reel on a windy day and wrapping itself around the handles on long casts
A line guide is is a partial wire frame which performs a similar function to the cage"

It's nice not having a line guard or caged reel as when you do get a birds nest all you do is pull the whole mess off the side of the reel and it all falls apart and fixes itself. With a line guard or caged reel you'd have to pick away at it like a level wind reel ;) the key to any birds eat though is not to just start yanking on it and making it tighter, gentle and smooth like with a woman lol :D :P

Thanks guys!
Went to berrys and picked up kingfisher 4 3/8 Silver w/root beer. No line guide.
Off to the backyard!!
