Title: Metal under float at Vedder?
Post by: Animal Chin on September 23, 2012, 10:27:33 AM
Just a quick question, do you use a weighted spinner or spoon under a float or do most just use the non-weighted variety? Hold back a bit while basically free drifting it or hold back and let it ..fan (term ?, sweep) back to shore?

How long is your leader?

I've used spinners and spoons in lakes but not really familiar with how to do it in flowing rivers (well never caught fish doing it anyway). Any help would be appreciated.

Under a float I only use Colorado blades with a dead drift ( held back at the beginning to get the blade forward and spinning) if I fish weighted spinners and spoons, I cast and retrieve without a float, i found it hard to get a good drift with a weighted spinner or spoon under a float since there isn't enough line tension to get the lure up and spinning normally and not just wobbling side to side.

Not a fan of drifting spinners. Find colorados are better and even then you need just the right resistance to make them work.
