Title: Nitinat closed - we need rain badly
Post by: paddy on September 17, 2012, 10:56:20 AM
As you are surely aware, they closed the Nit on Friday for Chinook retention.  And as of today, the entire river is closed for all fishing, as is the top half of the lake.

The river really was brutally low, and some of the pools upstream were empty with fish still staging in the lake and ocean.  One of our usual secret spots didn't have anything in it, and red rock pool only had a few (always closed).  Our other favourite place was only holding about 50 or so Chinook, and a surprising number of decent size trout and jacks.  Last year there were at least 500 or so chinook and coho in this one pool.

We caught a couple of fish and promptly returned them.   And it was good to see everyone was obeying the law.

As much as I am loving this weather, we need some rain.

Glad to see they closed it, the snaggers in all the lower pools would have a hey day with the few that are in. I usually go every year but wasn't to be this year. Same deal on the Stamp as well, fishing was very tough with the warm low water.

Cheers
