Anybody know about the 2012 Vedder Chums?
Even though they closed it last year, I've seen tons of them.

Tons ?? How many fish consist in your ton ??
It's still August, and even though there have been chum sightings already, I hardly think there are tons in the system right now.

Whats the earliest someone has hit a coho on the cheddar? im thinking of heading out on the long weekend, well maybe if it rains a bit first lol.

Yes, thanks F.A. I was referring to the number of chums last year. I wouldn't have even noticed the numbers were down last year just judging by the encounters on the river.

My first came September 2nd or 3rd last year, should be plenty of jack chinooks in there soon

Aug 29 was my earliest, usually labor day weekend will see a few fish, very few. The coho I have got early seemed small. Also have tied into a few bigger springs early as well. But of course you will see the jacks first. It is always spotty leading upto 2nd week of Sept. Then game on.

Show a few how to fish, and to those who are offered to learn...LISTEN!!!!! The crap on that river is sickening!
I plan learning how to float fish on my newly acquired CP. Just have to order up some waders. Hopefully I can get some tips and a little beginners luck while out there.

Short float good roe under a float, 15 lb maxima main, to a stealth float, to a small piece of pencil lead, thread it on the line and tie on a small black swivel, then 10 lb fluorocarbon leader to a size 2 barbless gammy tied with a bait loop knot. Remember short float! Don't be afraid to fish away from the crowds in travel lanes during a high tide in the lower river, the action can be non stop. Patience can really pay off, all the sudden the fish move thru and you hooked over 10 bright coho. If it slow fishing as well try a Colorado blade, it may save you some roe.

Thanks... Now I need to get some practice casting.
I'm guessing that most of the shops around the valley will have "good" roe?

It is tuff to find good roe store bought. If you get your hands on fresh roe or un cured roe, seen some vacuum sealed uncured frozen at a few places, maybe army and navy or the outdoor outfitters, use some pautzky krill scented cure, I like the pink one. It works really good, dump cure in zip bag with roe, let soak in fridge for a day, then cut into fishable pieces and sprinkle a bit of borax on it after to help with the mess. I keep a roe towel or golf towel on my vest to help with washing my hands.
-
*wholesale sports? I can't remember the name of the place now on the bypass...think I got it wrong in the last post.
-
Only use store bought for untill you can retain a doe then cure your own a lot of time the store roe
with be a freezer burnt pink mess

I have been trolling and also anchor spin casting the vedder between the highway bridge and the mouth of the fraser daily now. No sign of any coho from me or any anglers out there.
There have been a few jacks ( White spring jacks ) and the odd moldy dieing red spring jack.
the odd sockeye **most likely cultus lake run ** so if you encounter don't ware them out on the fight and don't use gloves handeling them. get them revived and on their way asap... their numbers are terribly low.
I was talking to a few guide boats and they are having the same luck. Coho should be comming in better numbers 15th of sept and on.
No one i know has seen a coho this year from the vedder.
i have had one very large spring long line released already though. and i lost my favorite spinner, though that spring was most likely cleaning its gills and moving up north. not the vedder run for sure.
I will be out there in my small 13 ft trolling boat, and PLEASE jet boaters... stop swamping me ;D its bad enough i have to deal with those greedy seals. i don't need to be swamped from boats going mach 1, 5 feet away from me.
Grab your Spinners and roe and be prepared for the fall invasion... of combatfishers.
Be nice out there fellas and get along.
tight lines to all

Try the Steveston docks for roe , I bought some frozen chum roe last February from one of the commercial/fresh seafood boats there .
-
How much were they asking ?
-
I payed $10.00 a pound . There were 2 lb. frozen bags with or without the skeins .
-
cheers fin :)
