Title: Cheakamus River on mid-August
Post by: matrix111 on July 03, 2012, 01:16:56 PM
Is there fish on Cheakamus sometime mid August? We are camping at Paradise Valley in Squamish and thinking of bringing in my gear and spend some hours on the river.  Pinks go there but only through odd years so I am not sure if there is any on there this August.

You may see the odd Chinook, but they don't really move in until later in the month.

Acually your right in the middle of the summer chinook migration with the first spawning activety happening around that time. This is predominetly a white flesh chinook and they are closed to retention. Total bait ban on the river as well. Generally this is a small population numbering in the low hunderds. River below Culliton Creek is turbid due to snow melt off of Mt. Garabaldi that carries lots of glacial silt.
