Title: albion chinook test nets

Just wondering why the test nets have such poor sets this year? River too high maybe? :-* :-*

Hard to say, I was told Whonnock and Cottonwood test fisheries are showing better results.

Whonnock shows 10 Chinook this year vs about 50 this time last year.
Cottonwood doesn't start up for a couple of weeks still.

Albion shows 6 Chinook vs about 25 this time last year.

Most ocean testing hasn't started yet except for the San Juan gill net (area 20) for some reason.
Showing large numbers of sockeye.

Really high water, really poopy early Chinook returns. LEt's hope it has more to do with the water, although we'll have a better idea in the next few weeks when we start to peek on the spawning  grounds.

area 20 gill net has good coho numbers also.

I just looked at the Albion #'s for the last 10 years - its pretty depressing!  2012 is the lowest year of Chinook numbers in the last 10 years, and last year was the second lowest number (25 fish at this point).  By comparison, in 2010 there was 280 Chinook registered at Albion by this point; in 2003 there were 1254 Chinooks by this time of year!  2003 was an anomoly; but all years in the last 10 (except for 2007) had well over 100 fish caught by this time, and many had more than 200 fish caught by this point.  So far in 2012 they've caught 7 fish - yes only 7 Chinook!  What the heck is going on?  Am I missing something here?  Holy cow!

Colder water temps in the ocean may have something to do with it, and or river levels.....no need to worry yet.
