Title: Good inboard (Ford 351W Mercruiser) repair shop (GVRD)
Post by: oni_kage on April 22, 2012, 11:49:52 AM
Hi Can anyone recommend me to a shop in the GVRD that won't rip me off royally? I have a boat with an inboard Ford 351W Mercruiser and it is acting up. I am sure the issue is mechanical and I am just looking for a place that can diagnose it or even replace it.

Thanks!

what seems to be the problem.

Making a loud 'clanking' sound... I couldn't really check it out because as soon as we heard it we shut the engine down. Started it up momentarily and the sound got much worse. So I do not even want to begin to guess. If this happened on my car I'd think it was something to do with the bottom end.

Anyways someone more familiar with outboard motors needs to take a look at it

Could be your water pump - pull it and take a look.

If a motor sits for a while, the pump could sieze and a vane or two could break off when you start it up.
