Are you asking about a TFO fly rod or TFO conventional rod?
I have a 5 wt TFO - BVK fly rod and am very happy with it.

Just in general, I would like to get a 4 wt and 8 wt. I would really like to fly fish off the beach more often, any suggestions in that regard?

I have a 5 weight and love like it was said before great rod for the price.

Have seven wt.switch rod am very pleased.Economical very good quality and good warranty.Would certainly recommend.

I have a 4pc 6wt rod. Great rod and company. You can't go wrong with them.

I've had 2 over the years. Both great rods for the price. Used one for trout and sold it after a couple years of excellent use. The other was an 8wt ticr for I used for salmon mainly, and probably should have got the 9 or 10 for the number of salmon that rod landed, but its still going strong and I am trying to get my first alligator gar on it now.
Just be sure to get the right rod for the job, and don't fish a 5 wt for salmon ;)
Also, not sure how easy it is to warrenty them out in the lower mainland, but in calgary you would just walk into most fly shops and get a new section for 25$ or 50$.

My dad has had a 6 wt TFO for about 8 years has got a lot of mileage out of that rod.

I would not buy one. I have been fly fishing for over 25 years and have tried many rods. The TFO rods are definitely on the low end of the scale and the one I had (won at a benefit function) did not last and definitely did not fit my fishing style. I found it to be too soft and whippy which caused a lot of casting problems for me. I like to fish fast action rods with good lines to cast 40-50" with one or two double haul false casts.
I would rank the TFO rod as a starter rod as indicated by the price. Once you begin to do a lot of fishing and try different rods, you may decide to trade up. The way I learned which type and make of rod suited my fishing style best was to find a store that allowed me to test rods before purchasing them - not sure if any retailers do this any more.
Everyone has a specific fishing style and equipment that matches that style. Some folks stick with the first outfit they purchased and are quite happy with it. I found that watching others fish and asking questions resulted in me ending up with gear that ultimately caused more enjoyment for me on the water. There is nothing worse that fighting with my gear.
