Hi,
Been reading Rod page about Dump Bar in Richmond, and as I live in Steveston thought I might give it a go when the season starts up.
My question is this,
I have a Diawa Coastal 10'6'' Baitcaster, Line rated 12-20lb, Medium Heavy Action, and Lure Rated 1/2-1 1/2oz. Could I use this or do you think I would be better off getting a cheap surf caster. If I could use the rod I presently have what kind of size weights could I realistically cast with it?

I"ve only been out there a couple of times, but it's a relaxing spot to go fishing when I did it in the fall.
What you have is completely appropriate and is likely what most of the old timers use. Try to get yourself a rod holder of some kind if you can (the ones that lay your rod horizontal to the beach). Makes life a lot easier.
I'd say a 2-3 oz weight is the ticket. I think i used a 3 ounce because that was what I had on at the time, but I'm pretty sure 2 ounces is enough. I believe it's more of a low tide spot, so go then. Where I was, no one casted out more than 30 - 35 ft out. My buddy caught a beautiful wild coho and I caught a couple jacks the day I went.

The setup that you have should work fine, even though I personally would prefer a slightly lighter setup depending on what you are going for. That setup is perfect for salmon and the line strength is ideal to withstand the silty Fraser, which can cause abrasion on the line pretty easily. For bull trout I use a lighter setup simply because they are smaller. While the main channel of South Arm can be very turbulent, I usually use 1oz of weight as I don't fish too far from shore.

Last time I was @ Dump Bar someone was using it to dump trash from a grow op-sad......

I have actually fished the Dump Bar and lost a complete sturgeon setup to a fish, it is really relaxing but keep an eye on you're setup!
