I figured since the derby was done, it's time to hook into a fish.
water was really brown early on with only 6 inches of vis so headed up past alisons pool for some pocket fishing.
the weather was terrible but I had all day as it was only 9 am at the start of fishing.
Dipped my line in the water up and down with my dad and couldn't find a fish..
we decided to go down and get lunch around 1230 and after that we headed down river. checking out spots as we went.
deciding on a productive hole for us in the past we set out minds and headed back on the river at 2pm
water clarity improved to around 1 foot of vis at best.
having high hopes not seeing more than 5 anglers on the river other than my dad and I we dipped in again
before i knew it dad was laughing in excitement as a beautiful doe bit on his line.
fight was on with a quick run down the rapids and into some slow water near a bank.
and a quick pull into slow water provided a beautiful fish a hatchery clipped fish, bit of a missed ray on the clip but a hatchery.
quick bonk for the fish and on to the run I go, and not 5 casts later Float down and fish on, swimming straight into the rapids.
a short fight later and a few nice jumps a 7lb hatchery doe for me.
all of this a day after the derby, and at 620 pm.... too late for a freds photoshoot but here is my handy work.

Well done Brian, congratulations and the same for your dad. Nice looking fish and it's not often you don't find a horde of people fishing as well so you definitely picked the right day. Congrat's again !!!

Good job Brian, got mine on a pink worm also. Seems to work well in the dirty water conditions.

Oh man ,does it get any better than fishing with the old man and both getting one.
Awesome.

Saw 3 fish caught in the spot I was in on the lower river, all large and wild. Unfortunately none were interested in my roe bags today.

thanks fellas.
That day will be with me for ever

I saw you and your dad that above and below the crossing, persistence sure pays of, congrats.

The more water covered, the better the hookup chance.
Im headed out tomorrow morning, any suggestions on the bait or lure? i haven't had much luck in a couple days.

Whatever you feel like using, they are steelhead, they don't care! Look at all the stuff on the wall in a tackle store that catches them, pick something....
