Title: Chilliwack River, January 13th 2012
Post by: CohoMan on January 13, 2012, 05:39:40 PM
It was feraking freezing today in the morning. Maybe thats why they were not biting.

I heard of 2 caught at Brown Rd in the A.M ( one wild and one hatch ).

I then went down to the Canal to try but nothing either.

Covered lots of water today but nothing to show for it.

This is Bergman from the tree side.

Very slow out there today.  Heard of one fish and saw nothing.  Fished from lickman down to the canal.  Next time, maybe.

It was freaking freezing indeed this am as Coho man pointed out! There were 2 Hatch fish at Brown this am.I released a small 6lber on my second cast and got about a 8 lb. bull shortly after. Then local fisherman Jim makes his way down from the top of the run and ties into a nice 12lb hatch. The bite was over by 8:20 a.m.We were breaking the ice off the guides constantly. If anybody has a remedy for that I'm all ears ,cause chap stick and WD 40 wern't working.

Suddenly I felt very good about crawling back into my toasty bed this morning instead of driving all the way out there as Chris wanted... ;D

Another afternoon of many casts to no avail. The highlight of the day was having coffee with The Master and seeing his beautiful hen fish he caught early in the day. Two fish in two days for him. ;D

The river was crawling with people but found some nice water to work.

Hope things change for me shortly as we start the 2012 brood capture program come Monday.

By the way Chris I can tell you never fish up river by the amount of bottles and cans I picked up this afternoon, not to mention the disposible coffee cups I jammed into my vest

you guys need to dress properly if you think it was really cold out this morning

Yup. Was at the stave and sweating balls. Didnt even have layers of clothes on. Just my underwader PJs I like, then a hoodie. 5mm Neos then my fly jacket. Hiking around there wiping sweat off my forehead with the sun shining down.

I also fished the Vedder yesterday with a buddy. We started in the Canal, moved to the upper river, then back down to the Rail bridge. We didn't touch anything, saw one trout caught, (Doubt it survived the jackass threw it half way across the river).

Spoke to a bunch of people, seemed like nobody had much luck or even saw anyone hook up.

Water was EXCELLENT, just no fish.

Rick

Yeah well come April or May Ill be praying for something Goretex and breathable. Or dying from heat stroke in those things!

Glad to know I wasnt the only one who got skunked. All day I was cursing myself, lack of fly fishing knowledge and aptitude, only to learn A LOT of people got skunked everywhere.

vaseline works good too

Vasaline is a petrolium based product which will deteriorate any rubber products it comes in contact with.... personally I stay away from it for fishing gear...
