UPDATE: the mystery (of the dog) is solved. However, it's very sad and unfortunate:

The accident scene was about a mile from where I found Barney swimming. Our guess is that he was so freaked out and traumatized that he just wanted to get as far away from there as possible. And when he ran out of land, he took to the water. I feel lucky that I was there fishing, because there was no place for him to go and I don't know if he could have made it much farther. He's banged up, but fine. Our hearts go out to the family who lost their mother.

That is sad.

Did they return "Barney" to the real owners? I couldn't tell.
My brothers dog jumped out of a open car window after a accident. He found it 4 days later. By the crash scene and it looked like it just hid in the woods all that time.

Thanks for the video Rod, chilling story. Sad about the dogs owner and then the poor dog was so scared all it wanted to do was get away from there and swam to the kayaker. Drunk drivers who take lives should spend their life in jail. Thats only fair.
