The other day when I was fishing I landed a chum. When I tried to take the jig off its jaw, a worm came off its mouth. The worm is about half inch long, dark greenish/ black color. It freaked me out. I could see there were more in its mouth.
Is there anyone can tell me what is it? If it is on chum only or on other salmon as well? Thanks

chum are aggressive i guess...they target worm....

Huh, That's interesting. I thought the worm was living with the chum. like a parasite.
-
CastCatch, most likely small black leeches. This is very common on spawning salmon and usually the majority of leeches are found on the gills.

Buck, you're probably right, I googled it and the image looks like the worm I saw. The fish was very chrome, probably the worm just get into the mouth for not too long.
So I guess it would be Ok to keep that fish.

like this? salmon leaches. they live in the gills and wash back onto the fins usually during the fight.

Nice pics Matt ;)

Thanks, Matt, that's the one.
So It is common for salmon to have them. I guess it is OK to eat the fish which has those things on them.

Does anyone else use Google Chrome? This is not the first time I've had to fire up Internet Explorer to view pictures.

Strange. I can see pictures most of the time, but the odd post nothing shows up. I must be missing a plug in or an update or something. Thanks guys.

I've only seen coho with salmon leaches, but I don't really target chums much.

it might be not google chrome. sometime your network doesn't allow you to access the site of the photo. copy and paste the following link and see if you can view the picture. that's the site of the photo Matt posted.

Somewhat OT, but you really should have Firefox installed as a web browser. It's the industry standard, and everybody makes sure their stuff works with it.

No it's not. There are more Chrome users than Firefox, and IE is still top.
