Title: Stave conditions
Post by: JPW on November 19, 2011, 05:54:38 PM
Just got back in to town after missing the last two weekends of fishing. I was planning on fishing the North side tomorrow and wondering if it's worth stopping by the Stave in the morning?  Any chrome anything left these days or is it all zombies?  Thanks.

I was there on Thursday. I fished a couple spots on the west side of the River where I had good luck multiple times before. I was using my "killer" jig pattern that I'd normally get 20-30 fish in a few hours. This time out only 3 fish in the same time (2-3 hours). All were rather poor shape. I did see some guys get a couple decent coho on roe right beside me. I moved over to the East side to check it out. Fished for a bit kinda lost interest when the rain started to turn into snow. Saw a big seal milling about over there. Not much for fish surfacing. Other than that I think it's pretty much done.

was maybe 3 clean chum and one coho yarded out of some deeper water by the long liners this morning but the rest of the snaggers seemed to be getting only semi dead chum from the faster water.Walked the entire west side and the bowl area.
I got a nice clean bag of trash and a pile of gear, not too many treble hooks this time lol

yep, stave is done. was there today and there weren't much taker at all. few zombies chum to fight, checked east side too and couldnt believed i hooked into a decent chrome looking chum up there. My set up has a sucess ratio of 95% only enticing fresh fish and today, only got one compare to previous weekends. Don't ask me why i only hook fresh fish but it only seems only fresh fish are willing to bite my presentation, compare to jigs that all kinds of chum will go after it.

Yes the chum are done but coho are still willing and in good shape. Got a call this morning from the river and from what they said it was a pretty good day.

Was up there today practicing my fly casting. Snagged a couple of chums. I think I had a weighted fly on, and I was a little eager after the swing at the end of the drift. Once I slowed down a little I had no more snags.

I did however manage to get a coloured but healthy Coho to bite a purple wooly bugger and she put up a good little fight and was released without any touching or harm. My first fish on the Fly. Was nice to finally feel the rod bend, the line tighten up, and the reel scream.

Nothing for me today but I did enjoy watching the large number of bald eagles there.

6 eagles in this pic.

I see there are record numbers of bald eagles at the Chehalis

I was there yesterday afternoon for 3 hours, totally 4-5 people I saw on the west side, only saw half dead chums landed when I was there.

Decided to go further east in search of fresher fish, but did stop in at the Stave for an hour before they shut the gate.  Fic is right, although I did get into one that was actually still pretty clean.

I finally managed to hit up the Stave, albeit way to late but getting out these days has not been easy.

Still lots of fish around but as noted zombies and tomatoes.  It was good to see a lot of coho in the river mixed in with the chum.  I got a couple of jacks out of the side channel and 2 ho's out of the toilet bowl.  Still willing to put up some ariels the slightly lighter one put up a good fight while the darker one was a wet rag.  The jacks as usual went crazy.  :)  All were released with care.  2 beautiful but COLD mornings on the stave  8)

Went to Stave yesterday, fished a couple of hours using jig, roe, hooked into a few, no keeper.
