Decided to go back to the Vedder hoping for maybe an early steelhead.
Avoided the North side because the crowd was just getting to me...30 cars for a small river system was just too much.
So, got down to the canal and fished the couple of runs below the KWB.
My first fish on was a bright coho jack of about 15".
My second fish took me by surprised as I was drifting really closed in. Like I said, I was hunting for steelhead.
This bullet fish cleared the water and my heart was beating so fast thinking....my first steelhead of the season. The fight went on for about 10 minutes and when I brought it in, it was a wild coho of about 10lbs. Unfortunately, it was not what I was looking for but I had fun. I tried to take a picture but the rain was coming down like crazy and I did not want my phone to be drenched in water.
The wind started coming after that so we decided to go home.
What was a nice day of fishing turned FREAKING UGLY as our car got broken into. We were parked at No.2 and Boundry Rd. Had to clean the glasses before we can drive and that took like 30 minutes. Phoned RCMP in Chilliwack and they made us wait because they thought that we have to call Abbotsford instead because of where we were parked. They decided that it was Chilliwack jurisdiction after all.
On the way back, I saw this guy under the KWB hooked into 5 cohos and took one- all really bright. Go figure!!!!

I think I know which system you are speaking of, because my entourage and I left for the same reason. It was way too much and almost disgusting. Although your experience parked at the Vedder warrants that description more. It's a shame that there has been so much petty criminal activity there this year - it's been my first season on the system, but it's left a very poor taste in my mouth. Though I haven't experienced anything yet, being that I work in Chillliwack and have been putting in my hours, I know it's only a matter of time before I get hit. I keep it cleaned out and compartments locked at all times.

Next time I will park at the dyke and walk and cross the bridge.
-
Did they get anything ???
wish there was a way to have our vehicles wired to give would be thieves a shock of their lives
-
A bait car and some vigilante justice. There's no other solution.
-
Took GPS, some money and and a cooler with drinks......
Also, they took the keys to the house but they threw it away near by. Lucky we walked around to look.

These break ins have gone on for years and nothing that I know of has improved things. This year of course we had the tire slashing going on which was a shame for our visitors to Chilliwack.
I just park in high density areas thelast few years or where I am able to see the Leaf Mobile. Cuts down on places I can now fish, maybe that's why I caught so few coho this year.
I have thought of using a bike to travel to the fishing spots like the odd chap does. :(

i used to ride my bike to spots when camping at thurston meadows but a stolen bike and ripped waders quickly changed that :-[

Have to chain your bike to a tree and hope the thieves do not have a chain saw or bolt cutters and carry your waders in the bike's basket or do bikes not have baskets these days, not cool? ;D

Why are you complaining when you post about fishing the North side on your other post and you're showing off a beauty ho. All you're doing is contributing to other people fishing these rivers. A little hypocritical don't cha think? Don't you thin by posting this pic, you're encouraging other fishers to search this river out? I just don't get some people?

NEVER program your GPS with your house - they break into a car, use the gps to go to your house (knowing you're not home cause they just left your car) and use a garage door opener they took outta your car for example or keys if you left them in or break a window.... if you must use a GPS to get home, program it to a store or gas station or something close to home so it takes you to your neighborhood.

Good thinking...

Very good advice.

Hundred Miller..maybe I should stop making fishing report.
Not aware that I was complaining...I thought I was just letting people know that breakins are still happening!!!!
-
Keep the reports coming. ;) We almost went yesterday, kicking ourselves now for not going. Sounds like the lower section is still going strong from this and other reports so maybe it'll produce well for a couple more weeks. :)

Not a chance, heading to the North side. ;D ;D ;D

Thanks Rod....

You all can go over there while I enjoy the solitude and maybe some fish. ;D
-
...and you might just connect with a steelhead.

Based on my past season records, I think I'll stick with coho for this time of the year... ;D
-
this is sad sorry to hear that
was your GPS mounted on your windshield?

You don't think they could take the address off your insurance papers anyway ? Of course you should never leave a garage door opener or keys in your car . That's asking for a b&e at your house .
-
GPS was hidden under the seat but I guess they had time to look....

Cohoman
First of all, ignore those negative comments about your postings, and as Rodney said, keep them coming; its what this forum is all about. Your posting on this break-in was a good reminder for us all to be vigilante and also keep an eye for the properties of our fellow fishermen. If we spot someone behaving in a suspicious manner, say like wondering around and not really preparing to go fishing or even look like doing any fishing, then keep our eyes peeled. Every little bit helps I suppose. What has precipitated from this discussion so far is very helpful information for our consideration such as leaving our GPS, programming home address on GPS, Insurance papers, garage door openers, house keys and any other items that might be useful for the potential B&E thug.

Keep the reports comming in. Everyone knows there are two sides of the Fraser to fish and when to fish them. A phone call to any fly and tackle shop will get you the names of the flows on which to fish. The links on this site will also get you info on where to go.
When I worked at a local tackle shop in the beginning I was very hesistant on giving out specific info to customers. The shop manager overheard a conversation I had with a customer and told me not to worry about feeling bad about spilling the beans because the other shops send hundreds of people throughout the season to "North side" and the"South side". Some good customers even leave with maps.
Its fine if you don't want to post reports but you don't have the right to tell others not to post about their days trip, detailed or not.
Thats my rant on this on going thing 'bout posting reports.
-
I love reports and soon I will start my owns.
Like as I mentioned in the past the purpose of this kind of forums are sharing information, experience, and knowledge .
no need to negatively overreact and overemphasize on that.
those who are after information they are getting it anyways and there are tons of different sources available nowadays.
-
Another tip
if you have a windscreen mount for your GPS they leave circles showing that you have one :-\
give the area a clean when you remove it :)
-

You should photocopy your insurance and black out (or cover the original when copying) your address......

only 30 cars at norrish? I counted 47 last year on remembrance day. If you want to have fun there you need to fish it while the Vedder is still good and later in the season when the crowds have died down. Vedder is a great place to be fishing right now with next to no one around and lots of fish

I bet youll get some love from someone for saying the name when it clearly is not mentioned for a reason, lol just wait

OMG he used the N word! :o
Seriously though, the N has not been producing like its had in the past. Many of the good spots have filled in and the river is very tempermental. Often times its either dirt low or blown out with not too much in between. As Hue says, you are better off fishing the Vedder as it offers much more stable conditions and seems to have more fish.
-
True. The "N" is very touch and go. It can be good, but I find it's most often way too overcrowded.
-
Good report cohoman.
Nice to hear that late running northern cohos are moving up the river.

ahaha, I've go no problem mentioning the Norrish because of what you've said. It is a challenging river to fish and success there is very very dependent on conditions. Let people flock there and find out for themselves, coho that you can see are prime for snagging/flossing but the river rarely has enough flow to actually snag/floss. I also agree that the river has changed quite a bit filling in many of the productive spots. There is very little fishable water but a fun creek non the less
