As I wanted to end this coho season on a positive note, I decided to brave the rain and make one final go at the Vedder today.
I arrived at the canal area around 1 pm and did not see anyone else for quite sometime.
Rain was absolutely pouring and fishing was slow as expected.
After fishing both banks for sometime, I decided to go back to the spot where I caught many cohos this season.
When I arrived at the spot in knee deep water, I saw a plier in the water.
I picked it up and it was the one I lost last week. :)
This was unusual as I have lost a lot of stuff on the river, but never found them days later.
I began to wonder what the river gods might have in store for me today and my mood also picked up dispite being drenched in rain and freezing.
I baited up with some roe and cast out to the run which I was quite familiar.
A few strikes but no hook up.
After a while my mind started to wander and my drifts got longer and longer.
At one point it was so far down that I could barely make it out in the rain.
Suddenly, I noticed that my float was missing.
After saying an explitive or two, I set the hook not really expecting anything.
But to my total surprise, a chrome coho breaches the water and makes a spactacular jump. :o
After doing the customary jumps and rolls, I bring it close to look for the adipose fin.
It was tough to see well due to the heavy rain, but I didn't see one.
This was a really feisty 6~7lb coho and it beaches itself after making a final run down river.
I catch up with it and find that it has a little stub of a adipose fin the size of my pinky finger nail.
I gently nudged it and was happy to see it dash back to the river full of energy.
After that I landed a jack coho which was also released and no more action for the day.
Not a bad way to end a season dispite being drenched in rain. ;D

Good job on your last day of the season for Coho. :)
I might go give it a try in the mid section (not a very well known spot) tomorrow, hopefully the water will clear up a bit after the rain stops.

Finally, got a day off to go fishing :D Start around 8:00am at upper river, landed a beauty chum and 2 wild jack within the first 2 hours, then a " red lady " at the noon time. Leave around 1:00pm because of the rain. All released, not a bad day with the empty cooler to home.
Try to post some photos but it doesn't work because the size of each photo is 1.8 MB, over the size allowed here(200KB), can anyone tell me how to re-size the photos or any other method?

Hi staffy, the best way to post photographs on the forum is to actually sign up an account on a photo hosting website such as http://photobucket.com, upload the photos that you want onto that website, then paste the IMG code of each photo into your message body when posting.
-
Thanks Rod, just open an account at photobucket and try to post the photos here again.

nice chromer chum, anyone else noticed that the chum seem to be really skinny and small this year ???
-
I've had a mix bag of chum so far this year. A few really skinny does and some massive males.
-
Is it just me or does that second fish look a bit like a sockeye?
-
It is a sockeye. I do find the female chum is very skinny.

No - it looks alot like a sockeye.

that is a sockeye

You can see the purple bars that are developing on it's side.
I don't think it's a sockeye.
-
100% sockeye

sockeye

It's a sockeye. If you look carefully at the photo of the chum you will see the characteristic white tip on the anal fin.

;D ;D ;D
At this point it's just a poorly exposed picture of a fish, that many folks believe is a sockeye....... don't be quite so hasty to judge.

Too complicated-make it easier like the other sites!
-
Look at the bars on that fish, do you think someone painted bars on a sockeye?

They're talking about the second photo, not the first one.
