Salmon species do not dictate wool colour (although pink salmon seem to prefer pink and chartreuse). What really matters is water clarity and weather conditions. Lighter colours in clearer conditions, darker colours in murkier water.
I find that different shades of orange or peach wool (emulating salmon eggs from different salmon species) catch all salmon species equally.

The wool colour choice is mostly to please the angler, not the fish.

If you learn how to fish without using wool, you will be a much better fisherman at the end of the day.  Buy some jigs, blades, spinners, spoons, roe and prawns etc.   Then 95% of the fish that you catch will actually bite your presentation.  Wool does works from time to time, but you will have more success, and catch more quality fish if you learn how to fish without it.  Keep the leaders short...

Sockeye prefer pink, everybody knows that..

Are you serious?
Man, oh man, now I think I heard it all! :D

How does using bait or gear make you a better fisherman?
Maybe a better food provider for the fish and for the owners of tackle stores, but a better fisherman? Hardly.
As I said before, If I wanted to feed the fish, I'd buy an aquarium.  ;)

To tell you the truth, some of us older rods who have been around the block a few times try to minimize the use of jigs, blades, spinners, spoons (too expensive) and ESPECIALLY BAIT (too messy). :o

The ultimate challenge in gear fishing for salmon is to entice them to bite wool tied on a very short leader. That is the ultimate gear salmon fishing thrill.
FWIW, using jigs, spinners, spoons or bait does NOT reduce snagging - fishing without the intention to snag does.

Whatever, but sockeye prefer green. Pink like pink. Chum like purple. Chinook like red. Coho like peach and white.

Wool is just another tool in your tool box, best to master all the various types of presentation because on any given day, any one of them can be the meal ticket

ROTFLMAO!!!  :D :D :D

That chinook I caught on green wool last Saturday must have had a sockeye complex!
Where is Sigmund Freud when you need him? ;D

Rightous?
Is that the opposite of leftous?  ;D

Oh, wait a second...you meant self-righteous?

I hope your fishing is better than your spelling.  :D
