Title: Budget Minded Rod Upgrade?
Post by: kindalonismo on September 25, 2011, 08:19:40 PM
Hey guys,

My current 10'6" baitcaster is a Daiwa Heartland M/H 1/2 - 11/2oz lure set up.

I would like to find something that is a bit lighter, with a bit more action and wanted to get some suggestions.  Any suggestions on a replacement that won't break the bank...around $100. Medium weight?

I would like to use it for the fall fishery as well as steelhead in the new year.

As always, thanks in advance for the feedback  ;D

I picked up a 10 1/2 foot Tica at Dave's in Lynden (right across the Aldergrove crossing) for $65 - he also had 12 and 14 foot Tica centerpin rods for $75.  All prices in US, but I think the exchange is close to par.  My dad got the 12'.  We are both very pleased to date - my rod has been great for the 3 springs I  have caught this year, but not too heavy to take the fun out of catching pinks.

At that price range, HMX are good and also look into Berkeley Air IM8 rods.
I used a spinning version 9' light action rod for pinks this season and it was loads of fun.
They are very light and strong for their weight and well priced for an IM8 rod.
