Title: Tidal Fraser River, September 23rd 2011
Post by: Rodney on September 23, 2011, 08:38:43 PM
After giving it a break for a few days, we returned this afternoon with hopes that there would still be some fresh fish going through during the incoming tide. Upon our arrival, there were the odd risers in the middle of the river. Nina was the first one to connect soon after we started but it quickly fell off due to the soft hook-set. Twenty or so minutes later, my dad also connected with one, which also fell off due to the poor hook-set. Not long after that, One fish grabbed my fly as I was about to lift it out of the water near shore, but it also wiggled itself off as I barely barbed it.

When the tide peaked around 4:30pm, that was when the fun really started. There were not many risers compared to a week or two ago, but we could feel the presence of fish in front of us. In just over an hour, I managed to hook three more and landed one after switching to the spinning outfit. Nina hooked two more but both were lost after some lengthy battles. What was really noticeable is how hard these fish fought today, they took a lot longer to bring in than the ones we hooked earlier in the season. They were also incredibly fresh.

Season's not over yet. :) Have a good fishing weekend.

Way to go Rod!  Bet you're going to go back out again tomorrow.  I noticed abnormally hard fighting pinks too earlier this week.  Haven't been able to get out the last 3 days, but will give it a go for tomorrow's high tide.  Judging by the Cottonwood Gillnet numbers in recent days, the run is definitely winding down fast.

Makes me hungry looking at it; chrome pinks like that are excellent to eat, contrary to some opinions.
