Title: Chilliwack River, September 20th 2011
Post by: The_Other_Gman on September 21, 2011, 03:53:23 AM
Fished a few places just above and below Tamahi.  No sign at all of any Coho or Chinook that I saw.  Lots of pinks moving through not much interested in biting anything on a bright clear day with lots of sun.  Hooked a couple Pinks and one little Whitefish.  No keepers for me.  Water was a little higher than expected for this time of year, lots of water for the fish to move through so pocket water wasn't paying off very well.

The commercial seiners are still raping the ocean until at least the 23rd and they've been out daily. Until they are done...I wouldn't expect anything spectacular.
We are supposed to get some rain pretty quick here....so give it 3 or 4 days after the seiners are finished decimating the coho and interior steelhead....and then fishing should be ok.

The fly was pretty effective for me, but gear guys were getting mostly big humps in the back. I managed some very nice fish, and even got a male with no hump. All my fish took the fly pretty hard. Didn't see any hos, but did see a couple of springs. Rain will be good, but what a nice day to be out.

pocket water was not productive because not many fish are moving through yet, the water is about as low as it will get for the year, its a freaking trickle right now

Tons of fish moving through...easily 10-15 fish going by every 10 minutes.  You could watch em all swimming by.  If that's as low as it's getting then it's a good year for water levels, most years it gets a fair bit lower.

Yup, and with the bait ban in place and the slooooow moving water, it really is a fly fishing heaven not far from home.

bait ban on nicomen? never heard of that. I would take that challenge and win fishing my runs in the slough no contest. ChromeKings knows where im talking about.

when pink fishing, any piece of water with even a little flow, gear fishing shrimp will crush flies badly..

I was under the impression that when there's a bait ban on the Fraser, there is bait ban on all of its northern tribs.  ???

If you are using bait, then it is no contest, I agree. But you will have to find someone else to play, as for me the idea is to FOOL the fish with artificials, not to feed them roe and shrimp.
If I wanted to feed the fish, I'd get a bloody aquarium! ;)
