Thought I would check it out for a bit and practice my fly casting. Got harsh skunked - but wasn;t disappointed nor surprised, very peaceful and I wore shorts and got my feet wet. nice day. Water is insanely low, we really need a good rainfall to see fresh fish in the system again. FN have the weirs set up still below the bridge and are harvesting many fresh coho daily for 'food, social, and ceremonial purposes'. I observed from the bridge a 'ceremony' first hand - that is, a bunch of people stopped by to buy fish. People bought a 'ceremony's' worth for $50, I guess its a good deal. too bad its illegal. I walked down to ambleside and fished under the train bridge for a bit. Nothing. Out at sea towards the lighthouse I could see many coho jumping but were way out of range. Lots of pinks spawning under the park royal overpas bridge by the trailer park, can't wait for the season to pick up in a few weeks...

What kind of rain is typically required to knock down the Native dam to move fresh fish into the river? I was thinking about a 3.5-4 on the weir. Would I be correct in this assumption?

Anything above 5 should do the job ;)

yeah, I would say three solid days of rain as a general rule, as the cap only has one tributary [brothers] which is a small creek, and the cap reservoir is super low right now after a big dry spell so...either a bunch of rain to flood the dam or a bunch of runoff/brothers water bumping up the water to btwn a 4 and 5 should be alright, those damn weirs are at least 5 feet high, plus the fences

River level three will go over the weir and start knocking it over! It has been raining all night here (still raining now) on the shore and hopefully the river comes up! Would be nice if it comes up to three and does not blow out! When it does come up it will be some great times to be had! That first run of high water is so much fun!I have all my gear ready to run out the door!
