Just a little side track before the gong show on Saturday- the Perseid meteor shower will be happening Friday night/early Saturday. With the full moon, it will be tougher to see a lot of meteors (AKA "shooting stars") than if there was to be a partial or new moon. The good news is that it's supposed to be clear skies.
The shower gets going around midnight, peaks around 1 am, and lasts another hour or so after that. You can still see meteors before and after; it's just that there won't be as many.
But if you can't sleep because of the excitement of the sockeye opening, well, this might be a good way to entertain yourself in your insomnia.
Tight Lines!

Actually, pretty good- got in a darker area with little light pollution, and just kept looking up, focusing on Perseus constellation. Got the info online. Not nearly as many meteors as when there's been a new moon, but some bright ones came along. Sorry you didn't see anything- a watched pot never boils, eh?
BTW- MacDonald Park in Greendale (#3 Rd Exit) has been designeated a "light pollution free" zone. The Fraser Valley Astronomical Society meets there with their telescopes. Check it out sometime. Besides, a good excuse to park with your date!
