Title: Campbell river
Post by: ihatefisheadsoup on August 10, 2011, 11:41:22 PM
I will be stopping for 2 days in Campbell river looking for pink on my fishing trip next week, and it will be my first time up there, never been there so is there a good starting point. I don't need any secret spots, just a general area of where to start looking. Road names and or directions would be appreciated!

Most access fishing access on south side of the river (right side looking downstream).  Campbell River Rd generally follows the river for much of its fishable length.  If you drive up, you'll see the cars parked along the road.  One of the more popular places to fish is just downstream of Detwiler Bridge (but will likely be very busy).  Just follow the road and explore but be respectful of private property.

If you are going after pinks with a fly rod at this time of year I envy you.   Most fun I ever had.

Like fisherama says you can get good access on the South Side and there are any number of spots.  I found I did best wearing Polaroids to identify deep seams on the bottom.   That was where they were holding.   Fly-fishing or casting a pink jink under a float all worked great.

Hope its as good this year as it was in '09 :)

There is a pier I fished off where I had great luck for pinks. It was not the discovery pier, further north. Either way, shouldn't be too hard to find schools in the salt if you prefer that to the riv.
