Title: Fresh Roe
Post by: jacked55 on August 06, 2011, 02:44:12 PM
Anyone have anywhere they buy fresh roe in bulk? i am hoping to catch some salmon this year and make my own but until then i will have to buy some. i was hoping to get fresh un-cured roe so i can practice curing it on my own. also if anyone has any suggestions on how to cure it their way it would be appreciated. i have Googled it a lot and have a few recipes to try. Thanks i advance.

it all depends on what species you're fishing...i find chinooks to be the least finicky where as cohos will take procured eggs and steelhead will be more likely to take the most natural presentation.

you can buy roe from berry's bait and tackle but its already cured, you could just buy some of their pre cured (pro cure stuff) and then just wait till you get your first chinook. Chinook and chum are good as they have larger eggs
