Not sure if this will work as i have never posted a picture before but here it goes.
42.5" long from head to fork in the tail, i googled a table for approximate weight by length and it said about 40lbs. Either way, it is the biggest damn fish i ever caught by about 20" And i caught a second one that was 28" before this big motha. Awesome day out on the river. Thanks for everyones help answering my noob questions.

How was the water has it come down a bunch or is it still high and flowing pretty crazy haven't checked or taken a look lately been too busy
-
from what others told me, it is very high and dirty still. the current also seemed to be fairly fast which made casting accuarately a bit of a task.

hey, i might be wrong, but i thought that Conservation has been asking that fisherman leave the sturgeon in the water. By this i mean that they don't want them lifted entirely out of the water for photographs... i could be wrong but i was pretty sure thats what they were asking. nice fish either way...

Nice fish !
Rickjames ...don't think lifting a sturgeon out of the water will hurt it...as long as ya don't go & drop it & allow the thing to flop around one's boat or on shore.
Those fish are HARDY...guess if it gets to a certain size though it is best to leave t in the water & then remove the hook (side of boat or near the shore) It would not be a good idea to try to get a 5-6ft etc...sturgeon in the boat or on dry land. :o
Watched a tv fishing show on the weekend recently (quite early am) & two guys in a boat were fishing for sturgeon in New Brunswick (ya know in the Maritimes ...east coast of Canada) Yep they had sturgeon there too.
The guide said after they feed & get bigger they then will leave the coastal waters & head out to sea.
Some had long noses & ther were the short nose sturgeon as well. One was a darker color than the other one.
They would tail the fish while the other guy would get pliers to remove the hook. Looked to be 2.5---3------ maybe nearing 4 ft tops from what I seen on the tv show.
He put the fish into the water & swing the tail (get oxygen to the fish) & off the fish would swim.
One chap said the sturgeon has the exact tail as a shark & the guide said "that was correct".
