Sorry, another pink thread but I can't wait to try out the new fly reel and rod
Anyways, a friend has a nice boat and we are thinking of heading up indian arm for pinks. I have fished the fraser (mouth to peg leg), mamquam/squamish, and vedder/chilliwack but have never gone in a boat up the arm. Where should we go? Looking on google earth i noticed a lot of small tributaries that feed into the arm, is there a favorite out there we should be trying or just look around for surfacing fish? I suppose the west side of the arm is the area to cruise?
thnks

It seems to change a bit every year, just like any other river. A bit of exploring goes a long way. Not many anglers make the trip up, so you will likely be fishing by yourself. If you are going to do any hiking, make sure to make noise, as there are often bears in the area.

Be sure to try the Kates Park area. It seams to be a staging area for alot of the pinks that head up the arm.

Rode my mountain bike from Squamish to the Indian River mouth yesterday. Nobody was fishing the mouth yet and I did not see any jumpers. One of my favorite areas though. You can watch the seals swim up the clear river looking for food. As therise mentioned....very high bear population!

Launch at Cates Park and check there first, then cruise up the arm with your eyes on the shoreline. When you see a few jumpers, stop and fish. Be sure to check the map for the RCAs and don't get caught fishing in those.

was at cates the other day, no signs yet

whoa how long of a ride was that from squamish to indian river!>!??!?

Yeah, I cruised around there Friday night but saw nothing.

Went sat but nothing around.

75-80km return. Length isn't to much of an issue it is the elevation gains that are tough.

That's the back road east of the Chief? I was wondering if that road was a good bike ride. Sounds like I need to work on my uphill stamina more first.

Yes, yes, yes. I don't ride much up the large hills I just push the bike.
First it's about 10km or so uphill, then 25-30km downhill to the mouth... This is all good and fun... 3 - 4 hours
Coming back is way harder... not so good and fun and takes longer.
You could drive a 4x4 up the first 10km to take away that part of it.
There are also 1/2 dozen creek crossings (only 1 deeper one).
That being said the whole area is very scenic, full of wildlife and very remote as it's very difficult to quad or dirtbike the whole way.

Ricer,
You should ride up to the Indian River mouth and anchor in about 6 to 18 feet of water and just cast fairly big pink flies and just quickly strip them in...
