I noticed some koi and carp in a few of the ponds in queen elizabeth park and was wondering if you could fish for them.

I think the Vancouver Parks Board employees were a bit lazy or forgetful and left out the No Fishing sign.  I would just email them and if they reply back, you can print it out as proof of permission to fish.  There's not a lot a room to cast without hitting a duck or a tourist anyways.

Would you be fishing them to consume?

Will you? First off, it's a bylaw infraction, not criminal code offence. So, a fine at best.

Secondly, no mention of fishing restrictions in the City of Vancouver Parks and Rec website that I can see, and only one mention of fishing in the City bylaws prohibiting fishing on, or near,  a swimming beach.

So, based upon the information available to me, and unless there is a sign for prohibiting it...I say fill yer boots! :)

ED Note: this is not legal advice and should be taken with a grain of salt considering the questionable credibillity of the provider.

Even if you are allowed to fish it, I would not recommend doing so because the water in the ponds is disgusting.  :-X

There is a pond in central park that has a sign 'flycasting practice area' . Less fish in that pond.   I couldn't imagine casting anything there

I practiced fly casting into one of the Queen E ponds many years ago with some red wool (no hook) tied onto the end of my fly line.  Nobody gave me any grief and it was more fun than grass casting.

Perhaps try a big floating polly wog or mouse fly with the end of the hook clipped off.

You can claim to be practice casting, but yet can have some fun if one of those carp takes a run at your offering!
