Fished Ambleside for coho from 5 am is til around 8am or so. Over the 2 mornings there were 12 guys....6 hours for a total of 36 man - fishing hours. Saw one landed and one lost. Apart from that didn't see a single splash...

Don'e expect much-the Glory Days are long gone.

Glory days? Arent all of the fish that go up the Cap hatchery? And if so, shouldn't we have the same return numbers (+/_) every year? Are they not releasing the same amount of fish as they used to?

You forgot about ocean survival rate. If there survival rate is poor, less fish return. I cannot speak on the numbers released as I do not fish the Cap much.

yeah, that's why i put the (+/-) in there....for ocean survival rate. I am assuming there isn't some mysterious force that is wiping out 2/3 of the run? And if the fish are just not getting up the river because of poaching or the weir (which is under water) we should at least see some fish at the mouth, no?
I remember way back in the 80s most of the fishing in that system for coho happened in the Fall...

The past season was quite strong on the Cap with above average size and numbers. This year, the projection for run size and health of fish is similar to last and with the water level being favorable the fish are not holding at the mouth at all. In the river, they are moving quickly and are a bit more fussy than years past, however the numbers are not low. They're simply tougher to hook this year, tight lines WS.
