Hey Rod, how do you rig your rods up for these fish. I went out on Friday and set up my rod with a bar fishing rig and all I got were snags. Any help would be great.

Thanks

Change spot. ;) Best to find a spot that is snagless. I usually scout out the spots by going to them at low tide, to see if there are snags or not. Another thing I do to avoid snags is by not fishing very far out. The first 50ft from shore is usually a gradual mud slope, then it drops off after that. I find that the chance of snagging up is much bigger if you cast too far.

The rig that I use is pretty simple. From the main line, I tie on a three-way swivel. At the other two ends, one has a 1ft leader to the hook while the other has 2ft of line to a weight.

rod how much weight do you use in the richmond area, in the new west area i find 3-4 oz does the trick quite well,

Because my rod is only a 4wt blank, I can't use weights bigger than 1oz, otherwise it'd be very interesting... This limits where and when I can fish. I usually like to fish during a gradual incoming tide (like this morning, 2ft change, but it's raining...) so the weight doesn't move too much. Outgoing tides are not so ideal for me as the current is often too strong.

I use 1/2-3/4 oz in Richmond...  If the tides are really ripping along it is not enough but most of the time it's fine.

The drop off at low tide mark...its really a gear magnet.  Cast in front of it or WAY over it but never let any section of your line or gear touch it or it will gobble it up.

kudos to my girlfriends camera... we were in the surrey/new west area... for bait, try a few different things... do a search on the forum and see what comes up... scent is a big thing in my opinion with the recent water conditions.. the tide plays a major part in things aswell at some bars i have found out...  you will figure out with time put in talk to the guys out there... some are nice others are well you know... was checked on firiday by a CO. good to see they are out and about. send me an email and maybe some more information wil be sent in your direction.
