Title: Fry Patterns and Where to go on the Stave
Post by: learningtofly on April 04, 2011, 03:18:34 PM
Hey All,

Just wondering if anybody has been fishing the Stave and if anybody has any suggestions on any fry patterns that might work.  Have never been to the Stave but would love to try it.

Would I be using a full sink or a #3 sink tip?  6wt, right?  Or would my 4wt be better?

Thanks in advance! ;D

what i use is a 6wt with floating line and a 9-12 ft leader depending on the wind and the ledar in 4 or 5 lb. as for minnow pattern anyone should work, try using the search for patterns or google. i usually tie half my minnow patterns with beads to get it down a bit. cuttys are usually near the surface and are throughout the whole system, just watch for risers. good luck!

Best pattern by fare is the Rolled Muddler. Make sure it is a Rolled Muddler and not a Muddler Minnow.

I tried my luck briefly on April 31st and didn't have any.  I did see multiple rises in the middle of the pool below where the spawning channel (no fishing boundary) ends...just out of my flies reach  :D

The gate closes at 7:45pm if you park on the East side under the dam.

When I fished the Stave in the Spring time l use my basically tied minnow pattern with lots of silver flasher. I find early mornings, dark raining days or near dusk I get the most bites. Most of fishes I caught are Whitefish and odd cutthroat trout.
