hey guys im trying to decide between these to 2 centerpins but am having a hard time!
i need your opinions or reviews on these two reels. all i ahve to go by right now is online reviews...
so the two reels are the the okuma sheffield cp and the islander cp
both are 4.5" drum and both are bearing.
price wise the sheffield i can get for $190 and the islander i can get for less than retail.
i have been reading that the older okumas were junk but the new ones are holding up great.
i would love to buy an islander but if i can get away with paying less for a similar quality reel that would be great too.
also a some people i ahve talked to about this have said that islander is overrated? true or not i dont know...
any info/opinons would be greatly appreciated!

You say you would love to buy an Islander. Why not save yourself the trouble and just buy it. You will down the road anyway!

Islander Steelheader all the way, but I here the new Islander Sea Run model is shat. :-\

islander x 3. You can pick one up used for about $225-$250 if you look around online. Lots of Islanders come up on the eastcoast forums.
I used an islander for about 2 seasons and had no complaints. Its bulletproof. Its local. And it has heritage/history. Plus, if you ever decide to sell the reel, the Islander will sell a lot easier than an Okuma

For re-sale value= Islander

Another vote for the Islander.
I can't speak for the Okuma sheffield, but a friend has an aventa and I really don't like it. I didn't like how it spun and it felt cheap.
I have two islander steelheaders and love them. They are very well built, tough, spin great and look great. I wish the steelheader had a lever like the sea run, rather than how the button on the back slides. Thats about the only thing bad I can say.

thanks for the replies guys!
after doing more research it seems like the islander would best suit my needs especially if i want to keep it for a long time.
would anyone recommend upgrading to the ABEC 7 bearings or are the regular ones fine? i fish my centerpin about 99% of the time.
if any one else has any field experience witht he okumas, i wouldnt mind hearing your opinions
thanks!

I guess I'm the only one who prefers an okuma to the steelheader. I have both the aventa and the islander and my okuma spins way better. Its spool is very light so it doesn't take nearly as much weight to cast which is perfect for smaller systems. I dint know what the Sheffield is like but what it all comes down to is personal preference
thanks for the input, how long have you had the aventa and do you use it regular on the vedder?

Okuma sheffield - with all the drilled holes is lighter startup inertia lots of rim to feather while plAying a fish and
If you compare to the islander is probably similar in spool width to the islander
If you change the bearings there is little to no difference other than the name and personal preference

Get an Islander, you wont regret it.

Islander...tried tested and true

thanks for the great advice guys! i got a used islander in great shape not long ago and
im amazed at how great it spins and startup is awesome compared to my hardy silex.
only thing im still getting used to is the button clicker.
thanks riblovac02!
