Title: HI, DIY'ers....ABU mod
Post by: Ken D on February 05, 2011, 01:41:40 PM
Hi, folks.... Many rodsters have the option of fishing locally, or a short drive this time of the year, when reels are chilled down.  Abus in the 4-5-6 size have IAR (instant anti-reverse), which is prone to hiccups in the cold, when overgreased, or over-oiled.

The Scandinavian community has come up with a very effective modification. They simply revert to old-school mechanical a/r, in conjunction with the iar.  Here are two web sites.

The Finnish site actually walks a person through the steps to make one's "own"
pin for the a/r dog.

The Swedish site sells both the pins and the dogs. For very little CAD money.  (29 SEK = about 4.75. Add stamps, and it's still OK)
Hope these tips help. Best, KD.
