Title: Islander Steelheader vs Kingpin Sovereign 478? Centerpin
Post by: Ed on December 17, 2010, 01:11:00 AM
I'm currently using the Islander Steelheader, was wondering how the kingpin compares?

well its $200 plus more than the islander... honestly for the money there isnt much of a difference, stick with the islander.

I am also considering an Islander or a kingpin classic 450,  I can get the Kingpin for a little cheaper than the Islander and both are brand new,
I would be curious to hear what people have to say about the Kingpins as I dont see many out there and have never fished one.
Islander new =  375 plus tax,    Kingpin classic new = 275 no tax   (ugly color though)                      ( what would you guys do)

Thanks in advance for any input

Islander Steelheader IS...no comparison!!! Less problems and best bang for the buck.

I had a Milner bearing reel, beautiful reel, sold it, it went to the east coast. Bought the bushing Milner, runs even smother, can cast farther with it. The reel will last a long time, and you won’t be upgrading bearings.

ditto for the Milner. but the Steelheader is nice too - very lightweight. can't go wrong with either of these two. I hate kingpins... the bearings hum like hell. and i think the IS looks better anyway  ;D
