Almost agree... but my children seem quite able to read every video game title known to mankind.... of course they don't seem to understand why dad doesn't have the $60 plus to buy it for them ;D

It usual is a go until a decision is made on the morning of the derby to postpone or not. You could try the clubhouse 858 - 4202

Is lunch included with derby ticket? :)
-
Can you buy your ticket at the tamahi bridge? Or do you need to buy one at the tackle store?
-
freds custom tackle, or the fish and game club. tamahi is a punch card station.

The 67th annual Chilliwack Fish and Game Protective Association Boxing Day Steelhead Derby saw Richard Sheremeto best 280 other avid steelhead anglers as he captured the coveted Ferguson Furnell perpetual trophy.
His 14 pound 14 ounce buck steelhead taken mid morning was 2 pounds 7 ounces ahead of Jim Couers who took second place with a 12 pound 7 ounce chrome bullet. Gwyn Joiner had the first fish weighted as his 7 pound 7 pound steelhead hit the scales at 7:56 am, 22 minutes ahead of the next fish to be weighed in. Joiner also picked up the trophy for the heaviest fish taken by a senior.
A total of 15 steelhead were entered by the 2 PM deadline. All fish were in chrome condition and several reports of many wild fish landed by a number of anglers with others telling stories of lost fish.
Complete results:
King Fish, Richard Sheremeto, 14 pounds 14 ounces
Second, Jim Couers, 12 pounds 7 ounces
Third , P. Thomas, 11 pounds 13 ounces
Fourth, R. Lee, 11 pounds 10 ounces
Fifth, Steve Rosebloom, 10 pounds 9 ounces
Heaviest by a club member, Willy Grunenwald, 8 pounds 10 ounces
First weighted in Gwyn Joiner, 7 pounds 7 ounces at 7:56 AM
Heaviest by a senior, Gwyn Joiner, 7 pounds 7 ounces
Smallest steelhead M. Carson, 5 pounds 5 ounces
Hidden weight, N. Karpinski, with a 8 pound 13 ounce fish
Fish tails
Wade Gienow who won the derby in 2006 and 2007 brought another fish in this year again but his 10 pound 7 ounce steelhead was only 2 ounces out of the running for a 5th place finish.
The derby was first held in 1938 when Carl Wilson caught the King Fish.
Heaviest ever derby fish was a 21 pound 5 ounce fish taken by the late Walt Engle taken in the 1970 derby.
The smallest ever winning entry was 9 pounds 13 ounces caught by Wilfred Clark in 1942.
Sheremento's fish is the 3rd largest in the last 11 derbies. Gord Gadsden, 15 pounds 14 ounces in 2000 and Jon Beaty in 2001 with a 15 pound 7 ounce fish run 1 - 2
Thanks to the donations from many local tackle shops and businesses many anglers who did not catch a fish took home some valuable prizes.
A lot of thanks also goes to club president Paul Dulong and his committee for putting on the 67th edition of the derby with money made from the derby going right back into fish enhancement projects.
Pictures and some video footage to follow.

Forgot to mention, the derby winner told me this was his first steelhead trip of the season. ;D
-
What happens to the steelhead ? Are they given back to the fishermen or are they donated to charity ?

They can be retained by the angler. In the old days they used to auction the winner off and I belive some fish were donated to the club.
