A chap was on the ctv tv news & he said he est. there are aprox. 14,000(if I heard right) eagles feasting on salmon.
He said the big salmon runs this yr has attracted eagles from 100's & 100's of miles away...even from way up the BC coast.
He also wonders why there are not enough salmon in the other rivers that these eagles traveled so far to this area (???)
My question is how do these eagles know that there are salmon in a certain place...when they normally live far away.
IT'S NOT LIKE AN EAGLE GOT ON THEIR CELL PHONE TO NOTIFIED & SPREAD THE NEWS TO EAGLES FAR AWAY. ;D

They must be eating Coho, I'm sure there aren't as many chum carcasses around as in previous years.

We had our fun, seems like birds are having their's now.
that's some mess of gulls, man those things can get noisy! kinda neat how they just blend in though.

The problem is that the eagles are here because their food up north is lacking. Good for us, but sucks for the Eagles :(
-
Well, they won't find many fish carcasses on the Vedder. Brutal chum year and chums are steak and potatos to eagles about now on the CV.

14000 eagles and 14000000 seagulls :o

Was out with a buddy 2 weeks ago and there were about 10 eagles in a tree. Below it was a pool with about 20-30 coloured coho. No one seemed to pay much heed to the other. :)

On my 1st post I got the story from the BC CTV local news...they even had a reporter at Harrison & a chap interviewed who mentioned the 14,000 stat.
Now last night on the local Global tv news the anchor reported 5000 eagles !!!
Guess we will have to follow K.C.'s advice & get that 'messanger pigeon' to report the EXACT NUMBER. (good one K.C.)
Truth of the matter.
Guess we should just say "A BIG NUMBER OF EAGLES IN THE UPPER FRASER VALLEY" & leave it at that.
But it also indicates the great salmon run numbers we have had this year.
