Title: Tidal Fraser River, October 22nd 2010: Derby Reach
Post by: Blackgivesway2blue on October 22, 2010, 09:31:57 PM
I had a pro d day at school today so me and the grandfather went out and did some bar fishing, as soon as i got to the river i had a good feeling i was gonna hook me first salmon bar fishing the fraser in 10 years  ;D. we got both rods in the rod water at about 8am, the tide was still coming in.  Grandpa walked to the camper to get something, i came to help him out, i than look back at the rods, mine is jumping frantically, got to the rod and he was gone.  So after that right away we were both on the alert. At around 9:30 i landed a small hatcherty jack Coho (1lb), and since it was my first salmon caught on the fraser in 10 years of bar fishing we kept it  :D

the rest of the day i had alot of good bites and tugs but just couldnt connect, it was pretty slow for the grandfather though (had one bite  :o  )

finally at about 2:30 i hooked my 2nd jack Coho (1.5lb), but this one was a little bigger, and this one was also hatchery, so sense we were leaving in about 15 minutes anyways, we kept it as well

Some of you more 'proffesional' bar fisherman would probobly think that 2 jack springs would be kinda of a bad day, but for me, it was my best so far, and besides that, i learned something out on the river today, it can only get better from here  ;)

Both fish are coho jacks actually.

Better day than me. I had a adult coho around 6 to 8lb following my spoon to my feet, only to turn away when I saw it.

Been meaning to head back out to the derby reach area...but river road is so much closer  ;D
I've only managed one coho jack of the three times Ive been out. Ive seen Rodney and Nina at his spot...but I couldnt figure out where to park without hauling all my gear a long ways..so I headed to the other bar downstream. This was tuesday of this week, zoned out and missed a hard bite that bent my rod and made the butt end of my rod smack my holder loudly to snap me out of it...I obviously missed the fish...all the action I had that day  :-[
