Title: Sun Peaks

So I've been offered a job up there at Sun Peaks and considering to take it. However I'm curious if anyone has fished up there in the winter and whats up there to catch? Any info would be greatly  appreciated.

You can ice fish local lakes for rainbow trout. ZZzzzz...

Or, you can ski your butt off every day on some of the best snow around.  ;D

Ice fishing and steel head in Thompson if it is open this year.

--Resident trout/char in the North Thompson if you can stand the cold are good size and often overlooked due to the more famous Steelhead and Salmon runs.

I'm too lazy to look it up in the regs, but Knouff (Sullivan) and Community fish well when the water is open. I dunno what the rules are after freeze up.

McGuillvary lake is right by Sun Peaks. Fished it once and had a great day. Lots of fish not to mention the wildlife. Osprey, Deer and cow/calf Moose. Great time to re-introduce myself to fishing.

I've never tried ice fishing - but I've seen people do it on the lakes up there. Heffley Lake is one of my "home" waters - I've been fly fishing that lake for the last 12 seasons.  Lots of fish - some pushing 4 - 5 pounds.  The Hitch n Rail resort on the lake has an 11 pound rainbow in the lobby.  So there's big fish in that lake but they're hard to find.  McGilvaray is a nice lake as well - it's higher elevation so it would be better when the lower elevation lakes begin to hit the summer doldrums.

In answer to your immediate question - you can ice fish in the winter. However, there's great fishing in the spring and fall. My family had a place at Sun Peaks and boy do I miss that place.  The family sold it and bought in Whistler - so now I have to settle for the Squamish and related systems.   :D

Of course there are no fish of any significance in the Adam's.
