hey guys,
im just having troubles justifying the huge price difference.
ive read some great reviews on both waders and for the price on Redingtons matched with their compareble features
im having trouble justifying the huge price difference or taking the chance on the CPX waders.
has anyone owned both these waders or spent some time in each?
i know simms are a huge name in the wader business and alot of guys swear by them
however i hear the same reports on every wader that ppl have owned G3's (even G4's) and blown a seam within the first
few outings.. any wader can have faults.
I also know that simms uses gortex material and its the best breathable material on the market
how does the material used in the CPX compare?
i dont have a ton of money to spend right now. so if i could save a chunk of change at its worth it to do so. i would like that option
thanks for input guys
cheers
p.s. i've actually seen a review online where the CPX zipper front were compared to the G4 zipper front (however im not going for the zipper fronts)
the waders have a striking resemblance

havent worn the cpx but the simms G3 are over rated. lasted a couple months b4 leaking....look at patagonia or dan bailey...i have heard better things about them
-
G3's ;D
-
i have a buddy who had the cpx's(multiple pairs) and i dont think they lasted more than a few outings each time. but they did keep replacing them for free. the cpx's problem is a weak seam on the inside of the leg that rubs through because they are quite stiff. i have heard of other people havin problems with them as well. i have a pair of g3's and do alot of hiking in them and have no complaints.
-
The Reddington felt sole wading boots are really crappy. They are comfortable however the side seams split after a short time and I have seen this on 4 or 5 pairs of boots. I would look at other brands. I had to glue the seams on my pair when they started to split after about month of sockeye fishing!

Simms all day, any day. Most people that say Simms are overrated either have never worn a pair, or got the wrong size and they fit wrong and wore out prematurely.

have had 4 different pairs of simms..all properly fitted and all have been a bust...my brother has had similar experiences with his simms..to give you an idea, bare blackwaters were a better wader for me...and thats saying a lot.
atleast there boots are nice.

I have new simms but never use it. Still using 5 years old patagonia waders and love them.

Could not agree more. Simms are the way to go and as said if they "fit" properly ie. dont pull when lifting your leg or are extremely to big and rub will outlast on average the competitors. There is a reason most guys who are on the water everyday (guides etc.) more often than not use simms. Worth the extra expense IMO.
-
i have an old pair of simms waders, probably....approaching 8+ years, and let me tell you i have not cared for them at all, i left them outside for a full winter one year, i've put them through heck....and they still don't leak.
-
If you want Chinese gear don't buy the g3s. I have the headwaters... Made in USA and this is my secOnd year with em no leaks
-
Cabelas Guidetech have had mine 3plus years.Still going strong.I fish just under 100 days a year and not from a boat.I ave bushwacked many k's in them.Owned several sets of different waders all were unsatisfactory some way.The Guidetech waders were one third the price of Simms with lots of features. With our dollar at par or nearly they are worth a look.I would buy them here if I did not have to pay three times as much for the same stuff from China.
-
The G3's I have were made in Bozeman, MT. USA, not China.

so headwaters are made in china? or simms are? what are you saying here?
-
G3's,7 years, beach fishing, river fishing and lake fishing, little care, no leaks. Simms all the way.
-
I Own the CPX's, also had the problem with inside legs rubbing. however i had a brand new pair within two days after sending them in (the remodeled version too) and so far so good. As for the comfort, taper, features, and quality of material they are very nice imo.
-
Simms website says Headwaters are made in Bozeman, Montana. I've had my Headwaters about 25 trips out now and no problems so far. I tend to be hard on gear, so I'd like to get G3's and keep the Headwaters for summer use or when I'n not climbing canyons/sliding over sharp rocks/ bushwacking.

All Simms waders are made in the US. Anyone saying they're made in China knows nothing about them and is only saying things to smear the name. Simms is the only wader company in the US and one of three world wide licensed by W.L. Gore and Associates Inc. to make Gore-Tex waders.

Simms G4 Pro: 529.99 at Cabelas Plus another $20 off
Bare Blackwater: $582.40 at IFlyshop.com

I have the CPX waders and love them. The SIMMS are nice, I used to have a pare but I would pick the Redington's in s second if I had to get a new pair of waders.
-
I went exchange a pair of CPX waders for a different size today, which they didnt have in stock. I ask the guy working there how the CPX are and how do they compare to Simms. He said Simms are 10x better and half as many problems. He also mentioned the CPX are remodelled, so maybe they have improved them with the remodel. I guess time will tell.

my headwaters say made in the usa ! I bought mine last year on sale at my fly shop ! fished in them bout 15 x no probs yet ;D

Bare Blackwaters have had a bit of a bad rep, have they started making a decent wader now? I'd take the G4's anyday, or G3s and some change.

is that the new price of the black waters? i was paying around 300 for the old green ones
-
the blackwater II were $299
i've been concidering the Bare Adams as well
-
The new bare breathable waders will be out soon. They come in 3 different models and they have made some major changes to the design. The biggest one is where they have placed the seams on the legs. The seams are no longer on the inside of the leg or in the croch area.
-
ya i just got an email back from Bare.
There neoprenes are ready to go and available for purchase, however, there's breathables will still be a few months
away from stores.
:( i dont want to wait that long. guess im still on the hunt

Hey Bentrod, NOT ALL SIMMS are made in the U.S.......Only Headwater, G3 and G4 .. The lower model like Freestone and Blackfoot etc.....( still made in China) ..
-
You're right Big T. There are two imported models. This used to not be the case. However, their warranty, standards, workmanship and materials are all equal to the upper end waders in their line. The difference is cheap/available workforce.
-
Bent rod, the biggest difference between the 2 is the conscious decision to support the north American economy.
-
The first pair of Simms I had were the original "guide" . They were awesome. Since then I have gone through several pairs of G3''s and a pair Wright and McGills. Either the make is not as good as it used to be w/ the Simms stuff or I am falling on more sharp things.
I usually do a cotol/aquaseal paint job twice, which buys me about another month or two each time. then I pack them in.
When a cheaper wader goes after 6 months it doesn't feel as bad as when and expensive goes.
-
just bought g4 recently, burned a whole in the pocketbook but greatwaders thus far hoping for years of leakless use for the price
-
I managed to snag a pair of lightly used Simms g3 on ebay for 200 usd. The guy said he only tried them on and never used it, but that is rarely the case. Nevertheless they seemed new when they arrived.
Either way i have worn them out around 30 times, and I haven't had a single problem. But with that being said, I do take care not to hook them or be overly rough with them. It is just as easy for me carry them in a bag and put them on when I arrive at the shore if I know it means traveling through thorny bushes.
-
To me it does not matter where they are made or what brand they sport. Value for the dollar and and field performance are what counts to me.If I can buy a pair of wades for less than half of a pair Simms and get close to the same wear I have made the smart choice. Waders do not get the same abuse in a guide boat as they get when you are bushwacking!!
-
got my Redington CPX waders in the mail today from Madison River Fishing Company. took 10 business days but arrived in perfectly new in box state
everything accounted for. Happy so far, comfort level is at par with the simms i tried on. Will have to see how they hold up but for the price it was a good investment

i got mine yesterday with the matching boots....COMFY! lots of room in the waist/crotch area so i dont anticipate blowing out any seams
-
i was going to get some boots too. i was just a little hesitant. figured id do one at a time to see how the business went and if i was happy with everything.
but i would deffinantly do business with them again.... should have gotten the boots. haha. oh well maybe next time!
