Just wondering whats everyones favorite tackle store?
-
Reaction Fly and Tackle in Abbotsford
-
Chilliwack Dart and Tackle, good selection of products, most helpful and knowledgeble employee (Nick) good pricing.
-
Hatch Matcher fly and tackle in Maple Ridge.

Reaction

Hatch Matcher
-
Berrys bait and tackle, they've treated me well there.
Really like the guys at sea-run but I don't live even close to them. Took my vintage rods and reels in there for some info and Kelly was great to me. Told me to use an old silex I had and inspected which rods were still suitable to use. Even shared his private vintage rod and reel collection with me. I've bought a drift rod and a fly rod and reel combo off them.
-
Reaction in the LML, Fish Tales up north.
-
Hubs
-
Army & Navy :)
-
Riverside - Poco
Gary has always been helpful.
-
Hubs
before they sold, pretty lame now
-
Barry's for river fishing
Nikka for saltwater fishing
Both convenient to where I live, give good advice etc.
With these, or any other, it is good if you get to know some of the staff. If one of the more knowledgable guys knows you, you will get top notch service and advice.
-
Fishing Hole...97th st Edmonton...great prices no H.S.T ;D
-
Best Tackle shop would be freds Tackle. Best looking, vast product, and overal layout.
But if your looking for the best customer service, approach and helpfulness I would have to say it all depends on the individual you come across in the store. Some of the employees of some tackle store are as clueless as some of the people coming in to pick up there fishing lisence for the first time.

Hatch Matcher fly and tackle in Maple Ridge.
www.hatchmatchr.com
Ditto
-
Berry's for their selection of components for making spinners. Amy port in a storm though...
-
galilee in langley nate is an aweome guy to deal with
riverside is second when i can get out there
-
West Coast Tackle - Bonny and Brian go out of their way to get you something if they don't have it in stock.
Sea-Run - Selection is great. Staff pretty friendly.
-
Cabalas ;D ;D
-
ive been to all the shops in the lower mainland and valley.
Hubs was my families shop for 15 years while roger had it, great prices and service...I wont step in there now with the new owner.
I used to work for reaction and they are a good bunch of guys.
i dont go into freds much as i dont like some of the staff or the prices. Berrys is decent they have knowledgeable staff and a good selection,
Bonnie and brian at west coast tackle have been good to us over the years. we have had probably 20 rods built thru them and always fast an good service. Highwater is a good shop if your over by the cap too.
been into michael and young a few times, the shop is nice and good selection...prices are much higher than other shops i have found.
Gary at riverside is a good guy and hes very helpful. Searun is a nice shop, I dont stop in often but the guys there are good.
I stay away from wholesale...no good staff and prices are higher on many things than local shops.
I go into army and navy lots, a couple of the staff have good knowledge and selection and prices are pretty good.
-
Fishing Hole...97th st Edmonton...great prices no H.S.T ;D
;D ;D ;D
-
Being shopping at West Coast Tackle before Brian & Bonnie owned it. I believe Gerry Scott had for long time. Brian built some really nice rods for me over the years. Love they service.
Silex-user.
-
freds
-
#1.Riverside
#2. Sea-Run
-
Berrys is #1. They have knowledgeable staff and lots of great products.
Nikka is my #2. Although they don't have the most river fishing tackle they are a great bunch of guys.
Riverside and Freds are tied for my #3. Garry at riverside is an awesome guy and is very knowledgeable. As for Freds there close to one of my favorite flows.

HWT....hands down the best tackle shop in the LML!! More often then not, there are great debates and lots of fish chatter in there. You go in there hoping to get something quick and leave 2-3 hours later. I will stop shopping there, if they start carrying Cleardrift floats ;)!
Yeah, Highwater is great. Searun is good to, but I usually go to Highwater.
-
One more vote for Searun as that was the only tackle shop i found my tiny spin-n-glos! probably size 10 or 12 last year around this time of the year :o
Berry's is great and all, but I find it hard to "walk around" and I don't have a beer belly.
-
Stillwater in Ladner is worth a visit. Great little local tackle shop. They helped me set up my fly gear a few years ago. Lots of hunting stuff too if you are into that.
-
--troutwaters fly&tackle kelowna, great selection of fly gear decent selection of river gear.
--several guides work at the shop and are willing to give up a few secrets.
--kenkraft near lumby.. lots of river and large lake gear and decent selection of fly plus you can get your RV serviced there as well.
--both shops donate staff time to local fishing clubs and help with work on fishing related projects.
-
Thanks guys for all your feedbacks! And thanks ChromeKings for your support :P
-
fleaBay, Berry and A&N in a pinch.
-
freds and army and navy
highwater is overpriced
-
i spend alot of money at army and navy but when in chillness i must stop in at freds, great service and its on the way to the pub for lunch...
-
freds, army and navy
-
Berrys is my favorite: convenient location, great selection and friendly staff.
Dave at Highwater is a top notch guy but his shop is not very convenient for me.
-
Berrys just cause it was the first tackle shop I ever stepped into as a kid.
However it's way far out of my way so I only go there maybe once a year when the sale is on.
Army and Navy for me usually, however Ebay works well too if you know exactly what you want
-
Cabelas ;D and Sea Run
-
Any port in a storm though...
Ain't that the truth.
I'm partial to the guys at Michael & Young, they've treated me very well. Really good selection of Simms stuff, etc. And fly chucking rigs.
Pacific Angler is closest to where I work and gets a fair bit of my play money.
-
Correction, I would shop at any tackle store that has the cheapest clear drift floats and terminal tackle. I imagine that I would keep losing them ???
A&N definitely off the list...$7.50ish Drennan I already lost one.
-
For me, for reasons of location, selection, and helpful people, Pacific Angler is tops.
-
Sea Run and A&N.
-
A&N for all terminal tackles, i.e. hooks, lines and such generally.
Berry's for rods, reels etc, and Baits. I used to get a lot of spinner kits from the store
M&Y on Broadway for all my fly fishing needs, and the staff there are very helpful and friendly. It is very close to home.
Fred's for rods and reels and some others when I'm on the flow.
High water is a very nice place to visit. Dave is a knowledgeable guy in fishing related issues, but it is far from where I live. Last time I went there for a quick line change on my reel. I ended up staying there over an hour having a good chat with him.
All in all, I have visited most of the local tackle stores at least once (except those in Coquitlam and Maple Ridge areas) if they happen to be on the way to where I am heading out.
-
Dave at Highwater... great guy, tons of advice... actually involved in and fights for the industry/conservation for all of us... so what if you pay 50 cents more for the odd spinner, way rather talk to a guy that has current info and will take the time to draw you a map with a paper and pencil to a flow that you are heading to and have no idea where to start. Those that go for the cheap deal and forget about the quality and importance of the local shops are VERY short sighted.
Pacific Angler is also a very solid shop/staff on and off the river.
-
I like them all.
They are all different, unique, and give you different ideas and new perspectives.
Due to my geographic location, I spend a lot of time at Hatchmatchr' in Maple Ridge.
Due to old ties which go back years, I always love to drop by Fred's and see how it looks when I am out that way.
Dano
-
nicola valley outdoors. fred and jon help out well.
-
M&Y for all my fly gear
for gear stuff i just go to whats closest because im not picky when i just need some lead or hooks ;) LOL
Army & Navy and Freds are probably the ones im in most because one in close to home and the other is right next to the river
-
Little Fort Fly
-
Chilliwack Dart and Tackle.
-
The Big Horn Gas Station on the Thompson used to be the best. You gave him a list of what you wanted or needed and he would get it in asap no matter what it was for the next trip. To bad what happened to that valley they were some good people.
-
Dart & Tackle, they always have bouncing betty's and yellow braid!! And Nick's pretty good too... ;)
-
Another favorite is Exerter Sports in 100 mile house, nice selection of flies and local knowledge of where and what is happening on the lakes in that area!
-
I mentioned highwater is expensive and yea it is but they also have the same gear at army navy some of the stuff, they all have variety and different selection, i still shop at highwater because I like dave and his selection when other stores are sold out. But another thing is that better gear doesnt make a better fishermen. Ive outfished guys with islanders, while i was using my old kids trout rod. I find most guys with the best gear arent the best fishermen, rather than just show offs. I notice the good fishermen as they have the old beat up reels as they ahve been hammering the river their whole life.
-
I ll second galillee in langley
-
haha yea i like to find deals, and yea I dont need the best gear around cause I know I can catch fish without using islanders and overpriced gear. I got myg ood ole abu from army and navy.
-
and besides I fish to relax and enjoy myself not to be some cocky guy with expensive gear. I know my spots and rivers where I fish and as long as im happy I could careless what someone thinks of me and my gear.
-
Riverside - Poco
Gary has always been helpful.
my favorite is searun
-
Nicola Valley Outdoors, Fred and Joan Watts are awesom as well as very helpfull and if they don't have it in stock they will order it pronto..... :)
-
Pacific Angler then Riverside and Fred's!
-
Canadian tire.
-
Steveton Marine and A&N Ray is a good help
-
I've worked at two Lower Mainland tackle stores. I know that each store has to cater to its own demographic. The suburbs are much different then the city. A thousand square feet costs a hell of a lot more in the city than in one of the Tri-Cities so obviously the prices will reflect that.
I shop at Pacific Angler, Riverside, Sea-Run, Reaction, Freds, and Nikka. I'd heard lots of great things about Micheal and Young, Highwater, Hatch Match'r, and Berry's but I just haven't been in the area to stop by and spend some time and money to really get a feel of their stores.
-
I support my local tackle shop, which is Berry's, but my all time favorite is Bucky's in Duncan. Growing up on the island, I remember all through the late 60's and 70's going there as a little kid with my dad. The awesome amounts of fishing and hunting gear was so cool. Listening to the men in their Cowichan Sweaters talk about the big one that got away and where they were going deer hunting, the smell of the place is still fresh in my mind. The ambiance and aura of the place was the best. The shops that have been around for decades are still the ones i like the best, by far. 8)
-
A&N Ray is a good help
you got that right, hes one hell of a guy...
-
Ray is a great guy, Always have great discussions with him when Im in there, Very helpfull as well
-
If you're talking about Ray from A&N Langley, he's good peoples!! Went to highschool with him in North Van and back then he was a pretty diehard fisherman.
Ahhh so you must be Rohn then?
-
And who is Ron to you?
Someone I've heard about... But enough side tracking of the thread.
My favorite shop would probably be Searun as they have a huge selection of gear, although Fred's is far too close to the vedder to not be over looked.
-
For salmon gear and dino gear.... only use Active Bait and Tackle in Vancouver..... can't come close to their prices and product quality!
-
Highwater tackle north van
Go see Dave the man is wealth of knowledge. Ask him how to tie a rig he'll spend 20 minutes going into detail about he little things that ultimately will turn you into a better angler.
-
There sure has been some good imputes on this thread! please keep it going
-
Berry's Bait and Tackle, as just 5 min driving from my home
-
For salmon gear and dino gear.... only use Active Bait and Tackle in Vancouver..... can't come close to their prices and product quality!
Where is this?
-
I like em all for different reasons. every tackle shop i've been to has something that i need that i can ONLY get there. every store is different in a way that makes each one pretty kool. enough said.
-
I do most of my shoping at Freds. I started going there as a kid and kept going back. Great selection and good service if you talk to the right people. Being close to home and the river helps.
I use to like Hubs a lot. Would stop there on my way home from work or on lunch if I couldn't make it freds before closing. Store has gone way down hill since the ownership changed and doubt I will be back.
-
ok so my fav in the lower mainland would be army and navy because of good selection, good prices, and they have noligable staff and good fishing clothes. The nicest store EVER imo is the River Sportsman right on the campbell river on van. island, and they have windows looking into the water where you can see the fish and guys fishing, its very good store if you like fly fishing :) and they got cool stuffed fish and animal statue things lol. if your on the island talk to them you are guranteed to catch fish, caught more first ever fly caught steelhead ever in the campbell by asking them where to fish and technics, and it just happened to be on the run right across the river from there :P had lots of watchers in the windows :)

And West Coast Tackle in East Van on Hastings Street.
Bryan and Bonnie are top notch and very knowledgeable.
-
Last year I have bought tackle from Highwater, Fred's, Barry's, A&N, Walmart, Canadian Tire, Ebay, rvrfshr and Angler's Advantage.
I still can't decide on that question. ;)
-
West Coast Tackle ..........Brian and Bonnie are great.Rod building, repairs, etc, etc with a personal touch.

I guess I can't upgrade, so I'll use my old Hardys so I'm not a show off.
Some folks think I am when I do.
NOT everyone with a pin is a show off (though there are a number that are)
You cover more water with anything other than a C-Pin.
BUT, catching a fish on C-Pin is worth more in enjoyment than any of them.
But that's a desiciion You make after you've caught a few.
WestCoast, Pacific Angler, Searun.
and A&N for terminal and nic-nacs
-
FREDS, all the way!
-
For fly tying and such I like Berrys and pacific angler, as a stand by A&N. For all us old timers back when I was a kid the place to go was the old Harkley&Heywood behind the Army and Navy downtown, god I miss that place... :)
-
M&Y for everything fly wise, and Berrys for the saltchuck. Sea Run is great as well, had a custom rod built from them which turned out awesome, just a little too far away.
-
Riverside - Poco
Gary has always been helpful.
Same here.
-
hatch match'r ;D
-
Just wondering whats everyones favorite tackle store?
Highwater in North Van.
Just fixed my fly reel for me <3
and they give me discounts for volunteering with the SSS
-
Riverside
-
My favorite was Rumbles sporting goods in New West.
Now i shop at Hatch Matchers mainly because they are just up the street.
SeaRun is also a great store with an excellent selection of everything but also a very good supply of tying materials.
Wish i was closer to Berrys and Nikka as i allways liked to shop there when i used to buy a lot of gear at the beginning of the Salmon season.
Troutwaters in Kelowna was a great shop too and now i believe its Nick has set up an online store with great pricing.
-
Sea-Run!
Totally.
-
West Coast Tackle.........Brian is excellent custom rod builder.
Silex-user.

As a newby to fishing...only 2-1/2 years...I really like Highwater but it's too far to away from me. I have always enjoyed the staff at Berry's but get great service at Army & Navy in Langley and Wholesale Sports...there are a couple of guys at Wholesale sports that seem to know their stuff and I just picked up a new Bare Vedder rainjacket there...and a new 6wt Reddington Fly rod. Being new, I can't justify spending the money on a G-Loomis rod or Islander reels...service and price!
-
Being new, I can't justify spending the money on a G-Loomis rod or Islander reels...service and price!
You don't have to have expensive equipment to catch fish, I used to catch steel on a spinning reel as a kid, but after a while you'll wonder "how can I make this better?"
and unfortunately better equipment costs more.
Be happy with what you have.
It can get expensive after someone lends you a good/better rod/reel.........
(I hate it when someone offers; when I'm not in the market for a new one)
Move up slowly, don't play "keeping up with the Jones's"
Not everyone with a PIN knows what they're doing; even though they look cool.
-
Fred's....local, good guys, always answer any questions i have, great selection, clean store
-
would have to say army navy/hatch matcher
-
army n navy, just picked up my first baitcast setup when i went to renew my license :)
gotta love the 15% discount
-
PACIFIC ANGLER ;D
-
Would have to say my Brother-inlaw Daryl's fishing vest, man he has tons of everything, oddly tho he's always borrowing from my kit :P
-
Speaking of that... I think it's time i find some real fishing buddies. I'm sick of trying to drag out the friends in my "circle" by offering them the use of one of my rods, all my terminal tackle, bait, free drive out to the location + gas, and then the gull to be "disappointed" that i caught a fish and they didn't :-\

haha i know what you mean!
