Title: Ultimate Fishing Town - Round Two
Post by: IronNoggin on September 07, 2010, 06:23:32 PM
So, Port Alberni did manage to come out near the top of the Leader Board in this contest, for Round One.    ;D

Now, we are into the Finals. Again even at this early stage, it has become apparent we are looking at a two-horse race between Dauphin Manitoba and Port. And again Dauphin is pulling out all the stops to try and wrestle this title away from BC. In fact, they have a slight lead at this point (Hope they ain't cheating... again   ??? )

A Great Many LOUD Thanks to those who helped us carry the day in Round One! Your support is extremely Appreciated!
Now, we are asking you to Please step up to the task again, and help bring this victory home to where it belongs - British Columbia!!  ;D

Please vote and vote often - you can do so every 12 hours on this site: http://www.wfn.tv/ultimate-fishing-town/vote

If we are Lucky enough to carry the day through your efforts, the funding will be utilized to support a handful of Mom and Pop Enhancement Programs through-out the Valley, and NOT sucked up by any form of government. They, and our local resources could really use the input Folks! I do very much hope you can help!!  ;)

Cheers,
Nog

Some rather interesting developments while I was away playing with a few more fish!

In Manitoba, the provincial government has stepped up to the plate, and offered to match the funds being offered by the WFN in the case that the Manitoba entry (Dauphin) wins. Story here: http://www.brandonsun.com/breaking-news/Government-will-match-fishing-vote-prize-for-Dauphin-102654979.html?thx=y

Ominous silence from the Provincial Government here in BC (no real surprise I guess), kinda makes one wonder if they are working on a strategy to relieve Port Alberni of the funds in the case that we actually do carry the day!  ::)

And in OnTerrible, it now appears that the entire Province has gotten behind their dark horse entry of Nestor Falls! Related story here: http://www.kenoradailyminerandnews.com/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=2751835

Despite all of the attention being directed by the opposition, Port Alberni is managing to barely maintain the lead. At this point we need all the votes we can muster Folks, and your input can help with this matter! Please help us carry the day, and bring the title of Ultimate Fishing Town home to BC where is so much belongs! Your consideration and support in this matter is HUGELY Appreciated!  ;D

So... the voting site crashed (at least out here in the West it did) for many hours yesterday.   ???

Although the site is up and running now, we lost over 2000 plus votes last night due to the crash and the time difference for routines. The papers should report THAT! Have to make it up big time now folks. We need lots of legitimate votes going in every 12 hrs. Nestor Falls would have been just completing theirs before the crash and Port was just firing up! This am we were only 20 apart. We are back on top with only 800 now. Gotta widen that gap big time. Nestor only is a resort community of 700 but are using their clients list (with permission)to submit. I figure they have at least 2000 on their list so get voting and spread the link around to vote for Port Alberni all across your contacts.

We GOTTA bring this one home to BC Folks! Your help is certainly appreciated!!   ;D

News out of Nestor Falls: http://fftimes.com/node/236691

I am uncertain if what they are doing and promoting is even "legal" within the terms of this particular contest   >:(
One thing for sure is but it certainly isn't anything even resembling "Fair Play"   ::)

Nor are these repeated occasions of the voting site failure. Given the timing of these, it is almost guaranteed to favor OnTerrible's cause. Today's downtime coincides with the same timing as yesterday, and a couple other incidences of the same in the first round of voting. They almost appear to be designed to ensure Eastern votes are in for the day whereas most folks out west are just getting home and considering entering their input for the day. In all the occasions this site has failed in the past, the East, as a consequence, surges forward in voting numbers to catch, and indeed even surpass those entered for Port. Their line (WFN) is that since the site is down everywhere, that voting is not effected in favor of any particular region. But the TIMING of these collapses and the subsequent results thereof suggest something entirely different. Hate to think that the Ontario based WFN would be intentionally involved in any such shenanigans, but would certainly like to see that spelled out in black & white at this point!

In each case the East has caught up to or overtaken us, we have managed to surge forward again in the course of the day. This is completely due to the support of those who vote for Port out here and elsewhere. Given the tactics taken by Nestor Falls, we need ALL of your support once again, and for the duration of the contest are we to realize a Victory for BC! THANKS for carrying the ball for us People! VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!   ;D

Please continue to offer your support for Port & BC! I don't know when their site will be back up, but once it is, I encourage each of you to cast a vote for the Best Fishing Province BAR NONE! Let's bring it home now Folks!   ;)

Cheers,
Nog

Biggest surprise of the week is that OnTerrible didn't collect a massive lead over BC!   ::)

Times Colonist Article from Today:

Is Port Alberni Canada's ultimate fishing town?
By DC Reid, timescolonist.com September 16, 2010 5:02 PM

Want to help make Vancouver Island home to the Ultimate Fishing Town in Canada? Port Alberni has made the cut to the final five and you can make the Island town the best in the country.

The World Fishing Network sponsors the contest at: wfn.tv/ultimate-fishing-town. The nomination period closed Aug. 16, with the top 10 already chosen. The voting period runs until 2 p.m. Sept. 28. Follow the link to the voting page and you will see that Port Alberni is currently in top place with 42,409 votes, slightly ahead of Nestor Falls, Ont., at 41,512, but well ahead of the rest of the pack.

Here is what you do: click the VOTE button near the top and it will take you to the voting page. Simply click the: ‘Click to vote’ button and your vote is tallied. Then you can send them 500 words on why Port Alberni should be the winner.

Local fishermen know Port Alberni should win. It has year-round fishing unlike any other entry anywhere outside of paradise. The annual Labour Day Derby gave away more than $48,000 in cash and prizes last week. John Robertson won $10,000 with a 40.3-pound Chinook. But there’s much more to fishing than this: the sockeye fishing has been great this year with more than 600,000 coming back to the Inlet; coho fishing is switching into high gear; and the Stamp boasts the most consistent summer and winter steelhead hatchery/wild run on Vancouver Island, second only to the Vedder in provincial numbers. There are also big lakes for big trout: Great Central and Sproat, with access to the Sarita and Nitinat rivers are an hour away.

And you don’t have to limit yourself to just one expression of support. Contest rules say you can come back again and again. Every 12 hours, in fact, to push Port Alberni over the top. The winning city earns bragging rights for the rest of their lives, $25,000 in aid of fishing development, a 30-minute feature video on WFN and a trophy for WFN’s Ultimate Fishing Town, 2010.

Local angler Matt Stabler — his saltwater sockeye rig is a thing of beauty and his strike reflex gives new meaning to the word instantaneous — had much to say in his July 6 vote: Fishing opportunities every single day of the year! Including both winter and summer run steelhead. Protected Inlet fishing for sockeye, chinook and coho salmon. Access to the open Pacific for halibut, other salmon, ling cod, rock fish etc. etc. And of course over 100 Lakes in close proximity all teeming with various hungry trout! In short — Fishing Paradise!

Other provinces are getting behind their little, ho-hum fishing holes. In Manitoba, the government has stepped up and offered to double the WFN $25,000, if their town… the name slips my tongue, should unaccountably slip by Port Alberni.

..............................................................

So... Is Port the Best? I can think of several other Communities in BC that could rival here. But should the question be: Is BC the Ultimate Fishing Province, I have NO hesitation is crying YES! And for the purposes of this Contest, Port Alberni is BC's shot at the Title.

Get behind us Folks! Every vote counts!!  ;D

I fish the Nestor Falls area and while it is some of the best fishing you could hope for, there isn't alot of people who know that place. I think there in for a struggle. Going to vote local and give port albernie a boost. Even though the Brownsville area of Surrey sure has been good forever. :)

They've been soliciting Email addresses (with the support of their Provincial government) to add to their lists. Lists that a dozen Folks with nothing better to do than punch into the vote system all bloody day long (and half the night!) We haven't stooped that low, so ours reflect REAL votes! That part is cool! The part about them catching or perhaps even beating us ain't!  :(

Too damn bad so many of us are too busy actually FISHING to vote consistently! Apparently OnTerrible doesn't have that particular problem.  ;)
Yet they want to claim they are the Ultimate when it comes to fishing! HUH!  ???

Back on top... for now...
Barely! No "Comfort Zone" and they are right hot on our heels!  ???

Some news over the past few days. In Manitoba there is a media blitz asking the entire Province not only to vote, but to actually send lists of Emails in to "volunteers" so that they can use those addresses to pump up the votes: http://www.brandonsun.com/breaking-news/Dauphin-angles-to-win-Ultimate-Fishing-Town-contest-103159344.html
Almost funny that when this loop-hole was discovered, most suggested it wasn't really in terms of Fair Play. Yet, now that WFN has had no reaction, it is Full Speed Ahead with newspapers and even governments encouraging it's use.  >:(

And of course Nester Falls is up to the exact same shenanigans: http://www.kenoradailyminerandnews.com/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=2758558&auth=By%20Jon%20Thompson

Here in BC, our provincial government's answer was to slide the matter to the Ministry of Tourism Culture and Arts. They released a wishy-washy memo that could actually split the BC vote between Port and Chilliwack (which doesn't have any hope at this point, but is after all Barry Penner's home town  ::) ). They certainly could have made a much stronger statement of support, and they should have countered Manitoba's response with a matching winning funds offer. Ah but we never did expect Gordo's team to get on the same page with anything they won't realize direct profit/benefit to themselves for...   ;)

So, as has been the case from that start, the Country Bumpkins that we are continue to go at it basically without government help (no surprise) and we still plug our votes in with an Honest fashion. Always thought that any game should go to the side that plays fair, and of course I would like to think so in this occasion as well...

But with their nefarious tactics, media and government support, our opposition makes great gains on us daily. Yes, we are on top, barely, for now. About a week left to go, and still VERY much anyone's race!

I understand that a great many have become jaded with this process, and I can understand why. I myself have actually cut into Fishing Time far too often to help where I can. But there is only a week left. A week in which to get behind BC, and hopefully let the Country know that even when facing such odds, such sneaky methods to take us down, that BC very much is the Ultimate Province when it comes down to Fishing!! I still believe we have a chance here Folks!   ;)

On behalf of those who have worked and continue to work so diligently for this title, I offer our heartfelt Thanks!  ;D
And of course, we beseech you to continue with that support, vote once every 12 hours as you can, pass the message along to your Friends, Family and Contacts, and help us bring the Fishing Title home to where it so obviously belongs! British Columbia!!   8)

Cheers & Thanks!
Matt

Sheesh! Looks like their underhanded tactics may actually pay off. They are again well ahead of us. Appears they now have a good handful of folks who stay up all night to punch those thousands of absentee votes in as they manage to catch us pretty well every night now.   ???

Still got a fighting chance for Honesty and Real Fishing to persevere, but it's gonna take a LOT of help at this juncture.

Unfortunately in my case work (fishing for a living that is) has once again reared it's head. I am off to the Briney today, so won't be able to bump this up for the balance of the Contest. About 6 days and change left to go now, but I will be away for all of that and perhaps a tad more.   :'(

I hope someone here will step up to the plate and remind the Folks here and elsewhere to vote. To vote every 12 hours, and to get as many others online with that as you can Please!  ;)

I'll be mightily embarrassed should I get back from Fishing only to discover that some little back-water in OnTerrible has stolen the Title from the Best Fishing Province there is! If that happens I guess I might find some consolation in the fact that at least we gave them a good run, and did so by Playing Fair. Ummm... Nope, simply can't stand the thought of being whupped by them or their tactics...  ::)

Please folks, stay on top of this one, and bring the Fishing title home to BC!  ;D

Catch ya'll on the flipside...

I believe that the final deadline is 9:00 AM on September 28, 2010.

The Ontario town has timed it to get the bulk of their votes in before 9am each day to pass PA.  The PA votes then come in after 9am to pass Ontario.

So everybody will need to squeeze their votes in earlier before the final deadline (BEFORE 9AM).

They DO have a mechanism in place to validate addresses. in the first round, Dauphin was caught cheating by doing just what you posted. Ended up losing several thousand votes, and told if they did it again they would get the boot.

As of 9am this morning, Port Alberni was in second place trailing by 401 votes.

The pattern is pretty clear.  If we all keep voting exactly the same way as the last 5 or 6 days, we will not win on September 28 at 9AM.

All the dedicated voters out there are only just keeping PA in the race.  If British Columbia wants one of our own to win, we need to work just a little bit more.

1.  Every voter needs to get new voters into the game.  If 50 of us can get 10 new voters/email addresses into the game we could win this thing.  GETTING NEW VOTERS IS THE ONLY WAY TO WIN.

2.  Every voter still needs to vote every 12 hours.  Voting existing votes only allows us to keep pace, not win in the end.

3.  Keep in mind that the deadline is 9 AM SEPTEMBER 28.  The finish line is the most important thing.  Keep your voting early so that it will count.

I am voting my family/friend's email and I have asked them to contact their network of friends to contribute.  If any of you have twitter or facebook, this is the time to recruit.  We need ADDITIONAL NEW VOTERS to win this thing.

At 9am today, the vote clock said it was exactly 6 days to the finish.  So I think it is 9 am pacific time.  Unless they change the clock for the different time zones, that means the Ontario guys will have until 12:00 noon eastern time.  This would be a big advantage for them.

That is why we need to get NEW voters and to keep voting if we want to win.

Here's the canned message that I used for my email friends... feel free to use it:

There is a vote-in competition being hosted by the WFN (Fishing Network) to determine the “Ultimate Fishing Town”.  The contest has come down to a two horse race.  The towns of Nestor Falls, Ontario and  Port Alberni, BC.

Personally, I can’t see why the Ontario town is even in the running still.  Port Alberni has all the things that Nestor Falls has (nearby lakes, rivers etc) PLUS Port Alberni has the OCEAN!  From Port Alberni you can catch monster Halibut, Salmon, Trout using all kinds of fishing techniques.  It really is a fishing gem.

The thing is the folks at Nestor Falls have had a strong campaign and have had many people voting.  BC folks have probably just been too busy fishing 

We need to pull your help (International and otherwise) to vote for a BC town that has gone from being a logging town with a dead end future to being  The truly “Ulitmate Fishing Town”.  The $25000 towards the community will help them continue to grow and be a great destination.

It’s simple.  No need to subscribe to anything. No need to buy…  Just go to a web page and vote.

http://www.wfn.tv/ultimate-fishing-town/Port-Alberni

You can vote every 12 hours with ANY EMAIL ADDRESS that you own (for example:  your hotmail address, your gmail address, your work address) and we really need you too.  Vote early and DEFINITELY VOTE OFTEN!

You can see how close the vote is at:

It is now 10:20 am and BC is up by 40 votes...  But on September 28, we would not win because Ontario would have been ahead at 9AM which is the finish line.

I hope the rest of BC jumps on the bandwagon.  Chilliwack?  Skeena?  Queen Charlottes?  Interior?  Anybody work at BCTV or other BC media?

Wow.  I think WFN just changed the rules.  It looks like the new deadline is 5PM.  And I believe that is Eastern time based upon the voting clock.  This would make it 2 PM pacific.

But we still need new voters and continue to vote the votes that we have.

Related Interviews scheduled to be broadcast today: 5:00pm on CHEK, 6:00pm on CBC.

Apperas the WFN site is SWAMPED! Dreadfully slow, but you can still get in if you have just a little patience!  ;)

I gotta run now, the weather has smartened up. And as much as I want to be in on the Final Run, I do after all have to make a living. Figures that would be Fishing!!  :D

Keep the votes coming Folks! let all your contacts know, we really do have a chance here!  8)

Best of Luck!! I VERY much Hope we do Get 'Er Done!!

Cheers,
Nog

Edited to add: They are having a few issues with the voting site. Just spoke with one of their representatives, they are scrambling and should have it back up to snuff shortly now. The problems encountered are simply due to the extreme volume of traffic the site is receiving, nothing nefarious they say. Between 400 and 500 thousand votes have been registered, and their servers are close to smoking from the sheer number of hits! Keep them coming Folks!

News Flash: It appears either the voting site was hacked in order to favor Nestor Falls, or the WFN itself rigged the voting. My thought is the former. They have shut the site down for a day while they try to get it worked out.

IMHO should they discover the site was hacked by someone in Ontario, their submission should be given the boot as a consequence!  >:(

Don't abandon ship here Folks! Please remember to vote and vote as often as you can when the site is back up. With any Luck at all, the Honest approach will still carry the day!  ;D

PO'd beyond belief!  >:(

You've got to remember that the hacker isn't necessarily a Nestor Falls official type, but more likely someone that was just overzealous.

Any votes that came about due to the nefarious circumvention of security should be removed and the contest continue in good faith.

Imagine if someone had hacked it in favour of P.A. and it was discovered?  Would you think that P.A's entry should be DQ'ed?

Just keep voting when you can folks!

Cheers.

WFN has suspended voting for 24 hours to verify votes so far.  That is good.  Better to have an honest straight up competition.

They have verifed that the new deadline is 5:00 PM on September 28.  The later in the day deadline is better for us.  Up to now during normal day voting, PA pulls ahead, but during the overnight voting, Nestors pulls ahead.

But with five days to go, it is still a dead heat.  Hopefully, tonights news broadcasts will attract some new voters.

Port Alberni v. Nestors,  West v. East, BC v. Ontario, Vancouver v. Toronto...

Let's keep it honest... Let's keep it friendly... But let's just win.

from this morning when I was trying to vote

ATTENTION ALL VOTERS

Due to technical difficulties and keeping in the spirit of a fair contest, WFN’s Ultimate Fishing Town website will be undergoing maintenance for a 24-hour period, resuming September 23rd at 5:00pm ET. During this time we will be resolving any issues we have encountered and reviewing all votes received to date. We again apologize for this inconvenience and promise to rectify the issue as fast as possible.

PLEASE NOTE THAT VOTING HAS BEEN EXTENDED. YOU WILL NOW BE ABLE TO VOTE UNTIL 4:59PM ET ON SEPTEMBER 29TH.

Delayed and extended again.

The WFN site now says voting will not resume until Sept 24 9AM  and the vote will be extended to Sept 30 4:59 PM.

I'm guessing they are finding alot of bogus votes.  It will be interesting to see the updated vote tomorrow morning

Game on.  The WFN site http://www.wfn.tv/ultimate-fishing-town/vote/ is up and running.

PA has a lead of a couple of thousand at this point.  This is the home stretch.  It seems like the voting procedure has been streamlined.

Put in your votes every 12 hours and try to get some new voters into the game.

The new deadline is September 30   2:00 PM (Pacific).

4,230 lead as at 11 am today.

Remind your friends/voters that voting is up and running.  The existing voters need to keep voting every 12 hours to keep pace and we still need to add new voters.

The streamlined voting makes it easier/faster to vote.  I am concerned that when the night shift for Nestors kicks in, they will really pile up some votes.

The new deadline is Sept 30 2 PM.  Keep voting right to the end.

Whether you voted or not previously, NOW is THE time! Vote now, vote often, and get your Buddies to do the same!  ;)

I just woke up and am going fishing for the first time this season.

Nestors is doing their early morning surge.  PA had a 1,600 vote at about 5:30 am, but while PA is voting at about 1-2 votes per minute, Nestors is voting at about 15 - 20 votes per minute (which is about 900 to 1,200 votes per hour).  The different time zones and the voting pattern is making for an exciting race.

Don't take the weekend (or morning) off.  Make sure you put your vote in every 12 hours.  I can't vote again until about 9:30 am, but my wife has agreed to enter our votes in while I am at the river this morning.

It is Sunday about 9AM and the Nestor's lead is about 860 votes.

Do not get discouraged.  Remember that Nestor is about 3 hours ahead of us.  It is noon in Ontario.  Here in the West, we are just waking up and many of us can't even vote yet (eg.  my family cannot vote until about 10AM because of the 12 hour wait).  Just keep voting and try to get a few more family and friends to add to the vote.  We should come storming back by about noon if the voting pattern holds true.  The good thing is that the finish line is 2 PM Pacific Time on September 30.

It will be a tight race to see which town will win this back and forth race.  But the first town that cracks and gets discouraged will lose for sure.  So keep voting and make sure you vote again in 12 hours.  If you can add another voter, so much the better.  Every vote counts at the end.

They managed to top us by better than 1500 votes this morning!  ???
Damn those easterners are tenacious!

We have gained back some of the lost ground, but it continues to be an Extremely close race! headed for the proverbial Photo-Finish methinks!

Does BC have what it takes to carry this one home?  ???
It seems a lot of Folks think so, myself obviously included.
But, it will take a serious amount of effort to do so! Every time we get back on top, the opposition gets incensed, and rapidly catches up to us!

Vote and vote as often as you can now BC People! And if you know of some that aren't currently voting, now would be a good time for a gentle reminder!  ;)

Have to pull the boot-straps up a tad, but are still very much in the running!!  ;D

We all have to go to work.  But make sure you get your votes in before 2 pm and get tonight's vote in before 2 am .  You want to make sure that by the last day September 30, your last vote counts before the 2 pm deadline.

The cycle that has developed was repeated once again over night.
Over the course of the day we manage to collect about a 3 to 3.5 thousand vote lead on them.
Then they respond as their proxy list voters arise, and they cut the lead down to nothing, then pass us by in the early morning hours.  ???
This has now happened several days in a row, and very much appears to be the pattern now.

It is more than a little dangerous for us out West to assume this pattern will hold!
I have a strong suspicion they are lulling us into believing that is all they are capable of, and that this is very much amongst their intentional tactics to take us down. If they have a "reserve bank" of Emails and/or voters in the wings, they could easily out-run us when they call that into play on the Final Day (or two). Perhaps that's the conspiracy seeker in me, but I can't help but think that given the way they have played this game so far, that they don't have a plan for defeating us at the last moment. Actually have to hand it to their organizers, thus far they have worked the system hard and with focus, managing to stay right on us at every juncture...  :)

So now if we are to carry this, there are a couple of strategies we should consider:

- Of course maintain our voting pressure. Try to convince as many others to join us as is possible, we could REALLY use some additional support here. Should for whatever reason you or your Buddies not be able to get your own votes in personally, shoot me a PM or E. I will provide the contact information for one of our organizers that will ensure your vote gets counted. This would have to be done ASAP as I am departing for the Coast in a matter of hours...

- Ensure your votes are in before 2:00pm today, and 2:00am tonight, and the same for the next couple of days. We will need all that we can pour into it Before the 2:00pm Deadline on Thursday September 30th. On that Final Day, make damn sure your vote is in on time!  ;)

Watch closely now Folks! We are down to the wire, and this is an extremely tight run! Our competition has proven themselves as very worthy adversaries! They are poised to pull out all the stops, and take the Title off to Ontario. Our mission of course is to try and prevent that, and ensure that the Title instead goes to the Best Fishing Province in Canada - British Columbia!! This will take all we can muster at this point.

The weather has once again broken offshore, and of course I must answer the call. I am off again this afternoon, and will be so until after the Contest closes. I have misgivings wandering away at this point, but must ensure my family is housed and fed. It is after all, what I do - Fishing!  :D

The Very BEST of LUCK on this one Folks! Although concerned at this point, I very much do feel comfortable leaving this matter in your very capable hands! I am hoping, and looking forward to the distinct possibility of a Major Victory Celebration upon my return. Should that Happy Event come to be, there will be significant lead time, and Invites to the Show for all!  ;D

High noon.  This is the key time for the West when we build up a small lead.  Get your votes in before or by lunch every day until September 30.  That way you can vote again 12 hours later.  Otherwise, you have stay up late into the night to vote again.  I think PA loses out during the overnight voting, when some of us do not vote that second vote 12 hours later.  The Nestors group is very organized and tenacious.  They have people voting thoughout the night and early morning to catch up and pass us each morning.

Also, the closer you wait until 2pm, the greater the risk that you may not be able to get your vote in on the last day at 2pm when the server will probably get overwhelmed again by the last minute voting.

From another site:

Quote
The peeping Tom in me has noticed that Nestor has gone to another town in the contest for support when the contest winds down in the final hours. Seelys bay isnt buying it tho as they are not done yet. Here is a quote :

Hi all in Seely's Bay. I too am from Nestor Falls and can attest that this has been the best experience for our community and region that I have ever seen. Kudos to all of you for keeping the spirit in the competition. If when the final days are wearing down and numbers compel you to do so, we hope that your town would possibly decide on keeping this title in Ontario. We would appreciate any support, and would be proud to represent this small town spirit for all of us.
2 hours agoSupport Seeley's Bay Ontario

Hi xxx. We recognize your name from the news as the leader of the Nestor Falls bid, and offer you our congratulations on what appears to have been a very well executed campaign strategy. Interesting proposal, but we aren't wearing down yet :-)

So there you have it folks! Looks like they want Seelys to bail and join Nestors cause to make this a win for Ontario. Happy to hear that Seely's isnt biting...so far

Tactics it seems. Could be a Disaster if Seely's Bay buys in!  :o

The Nestors group has been very organized in overnight voting and have caught and passed us each morning.  I believe that we have more voters but some of us are only voting one time a day.  Anybody that voted today 2 PM to 7 PM, if you plan on getting up in the middle of the night (2 AM to 7AM) to vote that would be great and the rest of us thank you.  Otherwise, wake up tomorrow morning to vote right away first thing in the morning and get that second vote in tomorrow evening before bedtime.  That will get in your maximum 2 votes per day.  According to my calculations, between now and September 30 2PM Pacific, we should be able to get a maximum of 7 more votes per email address.  Every vote counts.  And a few more new voters would be welcome.

As of 12:00 AM midnite September 28, PA has about 184,600 and Nestors has about 178,000.  I believe there was about 14,000 votes in the last 12 hours  and PA has about a 6,600 vote lead.

It is 3 AM Eastern time and Nestors is still voting.  They are organized and tenacious.

Keep up the good work and we will compare the vote tomorrow morning.  Make sure you get your two votes in every day (every 12 hours) as early as possible.  Keep in mind the September 30, 2 PM Pacific Time deadline.  If we miss just one round of voting, there could be a swing of 10,000+ votes.

Good morning, and I definitely mean good.   It is about 9 AM and the vote is PA 189,000 and Nestors is 185,000, a diifference of about 4,000.  This is the first time in about a week that we have hit 9AM with a lead.   The next 5 hours has always been our key time to put the hammer down during the daytime.  We finally have a real opportunity to put some distance over Nestors between now and 2 pm.   Keep it up.  Vote this morning and vote again in 12 hours;  there are only about 5 more rounds of voting over the next 2 days and 5 hours.  If we can build up a big enough lead, we can try to run away with this.  But let's keep it honest;  remember that all votes will be examined and we want to win this thing fair and square.

The Deadline is Thursday September 30 2:00 PM Pacific Time.

If you can, please get your vote in before 2 PM today (and 2 AM later tonight).  By voting before 2:00 PM, you will maximize your number of votes before the deadline.  If you wait until after 2:00 pm today, you will not be able to vote in the last 12 hours before the deadline.  This is important because each 12 hours of voting is worth 10,000+ votes.

Nestors is still within striking distance.  We need to finish strong.  Keep voting and try to get a few more voters for the final push.

It is about midnite of the morning of September 29 and the vote is approximately PA 207,500 and Nestors 198,500, a difference of about 9,000.  There have been about 24,000 votes cast for PA in the last 24 hours.

We have made some progress for the first time in about a week, but we cannot afford to be complacent.  We still need to keep on pushing the votes.  Remember that Nestors will make up ground over night and during the early morning voting (before 9 am Pacific).  PA's strength has been from 10 to 2 each day and evening.  But if we slack off there is a danger that Nestors will pass us.  Every 12 hours is equal to about 12,000 votes.  If we are late with our voting over the next 38 hours, we run the risk of losing the last round of voting, up to 12,000 votes, at the 2 PM deadline of September 30.

Expect that Nestors will make a big push at the end to try and pass us.  Keep an eye on the vote in the last 24 hours.  Each of us may need to scrounge for some new last minute voters to put us over the top.

This morning, Nestors gained back about 3,000 votes but now is PA's biggest bulk of voters.  As at 11:00 am, PA 217,000 and Nestors 207,000, a 10,000 difference

The Deadline is Thursday September 30 2:00 PM Pacific Time.

If you can, please get your vote in before 2 PM today (and 2 AM later tonight).  By voting before 2:00 PM, you will maximize your number of votes per email address before the deadline.  If you wait until after 2:00 pm today, you will not be able to vote in the last 12 hours before the deadline.  This is important because each 12 hours of voting is worth 12,000+ votes.  (Of course, if your voting cycle is after 2pm, keep voting because every vote counts.)

Nestors is still within striking distance and will push hard in the last 24 hours.  We need to finish strong.

It is 2 PM September 29 and the vote is PA 220,500 and Nestor 209,500, a difference of 11,000.  There is 24 hours left and each of us can still vote up to 2 times before tomorrows deadline:  Thursday, September 30, 2:00 PM PACIFIC.

Do not let up.  Nestor Falls is appealing to all of Ontario to back them:  http://fftimes.com/node/237084 .  So there is going to be a big push by Nestor Falls.

We will win if:

1.  Each of us votes the existing legitimate email addresses two more times over the next 24 hours before 2 PM tomorrow;   AND

2.  Each of us goes out and gets a couple of new legitimate voters to vote. (I estimate that there is about 10,000 of us.  If each of us gets 2 new voters, that will be another 20,000 votes.  (It will be much easier if each of us contributes instead of relying on a handful of volunteers. )

Keep an eye on the vote in the last 6 hours.  That is going to be critical.  We may need to scramble for some last minute legitimate votes.  It is going to be an exciting finish.

Last night I got home form work around 12:30, I went on WFN to punch my vote in and noticed from the time I typed in my vote, the vote had risen by 10. This was almost 1am and I watched the votes for the next 2 minutes and the vote had jumped by 100 for PA. What the hell?

In the last couple of days, we have been averaging almost 24,000 votes, which is about 1,000 votes per hour or 17 votes per minute.  But not all of our votes are evenly distributed, we all need to work and sleep).  From my observation, our biggest push of voters is usually between 10 and 2, in the morning and at night.  You are just one of four or five thousand who vote at that time.  Thanks for voting.  Also, I think people are realizing how important it is to vote twice per day (every 12 hours) and getting your vote in before 2 AM/PM each day leading up to the final deadline which is 2 PM Pacific tomorrow.

This is the last midnight report before the final 14 hours of the voting.  As at midnight, Port Alberni is at 232,180 and Nestor Falls is at 218,000, a difference of 14,180.

To anybody that can still vote their second to last vote in the next two hours, we all thank you for putting in the late hours.  Every bit helps.

After 2 AM, there will be exactly 12 hours left and only one last chance to vote.  Vote as soon as you can because if there is a big rush in the last day, the server could crash again.   THE FINAL DEADLINE IS 2:00 PM PACIFIC THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 30.  If all of us vote, my current projection for Port Alberni is about 245,000 votes at the end.

Keep an eye on the tally as we approach 2 pm.  If the competition can rally some other towns (eg by radio or tv), there is still a chance for them to catch us.

Be prepared in case we need to scramble for some last minute new legitimate votes to put us over the top.

It does look good at this point, but get your last votes in.  Three hours to go.

Let's win this thing fair and square and with a bit of class.  I have to tip my hat off to Nestor Falls for their effort.

My big concern is that someone has hacked in a bunch of fraudulent votes for PA and that the surplus is actually a deficit when they are all tallied and it's all said and done.  This would be a tactical play on the part of a non-ethical supporter of the folks at Nestor Falls.

People supporting PA see that the town is so far in the lead that they think they don't need to vote while quite the opposite may be true!

We need to make sure all you legit voters get your votes in!

We were about 13K ahead (I think) back at 1:30pm.

I'm concerned about fraud.

VOTING IS NOW CLOSED FOR WFN'S ULTIMATE FISHING TOWN

Thank you to all the Top 10 Towns and the voters. The community support shown in towns across Canada was overwhelming and we couldn't be more proud of all of our fishing enthusiasts. The voting for WFN's Ultimate Fishing Town closed at 4:59pm ET, September 30th, 2010.

WFN is currently reviewing all votes received during the final voting phase to ensure authenticity. The final vote tally you may have seen prior to the votes closing is considered "unofficial" until we have had a chance to review. WFN will be announcing the official winner the week of October 4th, 2010.

The unofficial count was about Port Alberni 248,093 and Nestor Falls 229,805, a difference of 18,288.

Let's not stir up any unsubstantiated claims of fraud or conspiracy.  WFN will check the voting and any invalid votes will be tossed.

There is no proof of fraud.  This is a little town of 500 that had volunteers staying up all through the night voting blocks of email addresses.  I did not like that but it was within the rules.  I doubt they would have the energy or time to also vote bogus email addresses for Port Alberni at the same time in some machivellian move to lull us into a false sense of security.

If anything, my concern is the use of multiple email addresses for the same person.  Some have interpreted the rules to allow any legitimate email address to vote.  But the rules also state that a person can only vote once every 12 hours.  I expect there will be some clawback of votes from both sides.  However, our final lead was pretty big so I would expect that we should still come out on top.

I guess we could turf the theory of them having a reserve blocks of emails for the final drive.

With the way the voting took place for this what does the victory even mean from an objective standpoint?  Does it really have much to do with being "The Ultimate Fishing Town" or just an aggressive voting campaign?  This question has nothing to do with my opinion.
Title: Re: Ultimate Fishing Town - Round Two

There are other towns in BC which could have made the competition more interesting, but PA stepped up to the plate and worked harder and more passionately.

I would have liked to have seen a stricter registration system with one vote per voter (I think it would have been easier for Port Alberni to win if that was the case).  But all the candidates had to abide by the same rules.  The other towns sound like great fishing towns, but I think Port Alberni would have been a clear winner by any  standard used (of course I admit to having some bias).
