Hi,
Anyone near the Campbell River?
Wondered how much longer the Pink run will continue for and then what we are likely to encounter in the river for the 2 weeks following Labour Day weekend???
Had great fun there earlier this Summer (BC Day) with the Pinks coming to a gold bodied muddler.
Thanks for any help 8)

I was just there last week and the fish were everywhere.Almost every cast. The fly fisher were using sinking line in 3 ft of water and dragging the leader through the bottom with no retrieve. It doesn't matter what fly you use.

Thanks Fisher Man,
Good to know the Pinks are still pouring in! Just wondered by mid-September what else might be lurking in the river? :o
Cheers

I am going there at the end of August, could give you a report back in couple of weeks. Mid Sept should still have plenty Pinks in the Campbell considered they are having a very health run this year, but majority of them will be rather colour by then.
On the other hand, you may luck out on some eary Coho.
Cheers

Hi Ted,
Thanks for your post - would be really interesting to hear how you get on - I did really well just at the upstream start of the Fly Fishing only bit (although annoyingly no-one seems to administer this and all and sundry gets thrown into the river regardless of the Fly only area!!!!
Less interested in Pinks - though they are great sport - more interested in what else I might find in there - as you mention early Coho's. How about the Chinook - when do they migrate up the river???
Thanks

Mark:
Springs generally starts to run on late July in Campbell, I have in the past seasons hooked a few in mid August, the Power line pool is good place to start. Personally, I fishing the Power line pool and above to avoid the crowds. Heavy sink tips and into the heavy flow is the key. But be prepared, once a spring totally destroy my wife's 8wt disk drag reel in a single run.
I will spend most of my time on the beachs this trip but will certainly make it to the rive for a couple afternoon. Will report back.

Just came back from Campbell River. The pink run is still strong. However, you'll need to time it with tide and they are moving up river faster now.

Thanks to both for the heads up - looking forward more and more to our trip! Heading all the way up to Port Hardy then slowly coming back down to Nanaimo - should be awesome. Really looking forward to trying the rivers and lakes up above Campbell River - never made it up that far before!!

I dropped by the Campbell this morning, there is still lots of fishes (Pinks) there, although they are getting a colour, but the run should still on for a couple of weeks. The Big Qualicum has a good number of fresh springs in there now, may worth a try there if you are targeting springs.
Good luck, tight lines.
