Try a call to Sewell's Marina in Horseshoe Bay. Some of their boats may have tried that area. I just checked their fishing report dated Aug. 3 and no mention of Porteau, but give them a call anyways. Good Luck.

Porteau Cove is a protected marine park that is closed to fishing from boat shore and boat.

In Addition, Howe Sound has a number of rockfish conservation areas where fishing is not also permitted. Here's a map of those areas and you can click on each shaded area for navigation details.

Chinook salmon fishing can indeed be good at times during mid to late summer as these fish travel toward the Squamish River.
