Title: Fraser filling in! - where's the channel?
Post by: Morty on July 29, 2010, 12:39:20 PM
Was out last weekend for an exploratory run checking out the Fraser from I-22 to the bar above Herling Island.  Had the depth sounder on the whole way of course and noticed that although the water level is somewhat high, there's not much depth in many places.

Where Minto Channel can often be 10' - 12' deep even in August, there' presently only 7'-9' of water there right now.

Noticed even more-so between Gill and Ferry.  just below the Ferry Island 'boat launch' most of the river width is even too shallow for my jet.  Managed to find a channel that was 4'-5' deep but even that dwindled down to 2' when we got to the widest part.  Unless someone knows where there's a decent channel around there, I wouldn't travel that part of the river in an outboard.   I was running up the channel closest to Ferry Island.  Anyone know where there's deeper water?

I have been running up that way all year...haven't noticed shallow water except for the back channels?....I don't run that back channel from gill up to ferry though a lot of people do ......I run around by the agassiz hop yard...keep er' along the dike and I get maybe 15-20 feet there....then I go to the middle of the river by the bridge and its smooth jetting....I find the area around speghetti to be a liitle wierd now though...its like 6-8 feet around speghetti corner lol...

Wierdest spot on the river is between island 22 and mountain bar...the river goes from 30 feet to 10 feet to 50 feet....nice little flat in there!!!!
