I use a Double Palomar to tie on a swivel. I don't use braid direct to the hook. I use a length of mono to the hook as a shock leader.

It seems simple, but try it with wet hands, below freezing, in a rocking boat with your heart pumping at 150 beats per minute  :P. Practice, practice, practice.

I just used a clinch knot but would wrap around the swivel twice before winding it the 4-5 times etc.
Never had them break off once.
I agree with using mono to the hook in lighter applications but when i fished Sturgeon would go direct to the hook, but that was a cotton line and not a braid.

I hope to experience it one day  ;D

I use the trilene knot to join braid to a swivel if I have too. Usually though, I fish a length on mono between and terminal tackle and braid...swivels are ok at the braid to mono joint but I prefer to use an albrieght knot with 12-15 wraps.  I have had the mono well below the know fail more oftern than the knot when snagged so I am very confident in that knot and its small enough to cast and reell in (unlike a swivel).

I have done the same, BUT when dealing with changing leaders in the heat of the battle, I find that with a quick snip of the clippers against the terminal eye of a good quality small SS ball bearing swivel to remove the old leader, and then a 5-6 twists for the improved clinch knot for the new mono, I am back in the water ASAP not having to touch the braid. I can do all that blindfolded :P

I use the nail knot.   I have one of the Tie Fast knot tiers on my vest and use it to tie braid to swivels.   I find the knot to work very well.    I use the same knot to tie flies on to leaders and leaders to swivels.

They are not new  :). I have been using one for probably 10 years.  They work better with mono as it is stiff and easier to push through than braided line, but if you wet the braid, it works .
