Title: salmon flies for tidal water

Just moved to vancouver and have been waiting to try the capilano.  There are lots of nice little coho being caught and was wondering if there are any standard patterns i should be using other than my buddies favorite the muddler .  thats all he can talk about.  But if anyone has any advice it will be welcomed. ???

Tidal (in your title) is the salty/brackish water.  So there I would go muddlers, christmas trees, krill/shrimp patterns.
PLUS make sure you have your tidal license.
The fresh water will work with those too, but I would throw in some flashy: green, silver, gold flies as well (wooly buggers/coho killers (aka california neals)...).
But it might be best to pack another rod (spin/baitcast) because, unless you're a good caster,
a lot of areas are limiting in casting and it often gets too busy to be chucking around a hook on the end of a whip and most people are oblivious.

First of all wear your lifejacket if you go out onto the spit at low tide.   That is where we caught coho on the cast fly.    You would not believe what we used.    Mickey Finns,  and something chartreuse flourescent green weenie.     Never before had I caught a salmon in the chuck with attractor flies.    Then again I had not caught any salmon with a fly before  expo  86.      The flies we used were also small size 8,  size 6.     Not on stainless hooks either.   I can only guess now what would work ?     Chuck everything and expect them to bite .    Strip fast,  then halt,  repeat.

I would go with CLOUSERS in various sizes in Chartruese/White, Red/white, Red/Orange/white and even a green/blue variation. These things are simple to tie and catch every type of fish at certain times but salmon cant help but bite them  ;D

thanks guys i guess i should just about try eveything untill I get some strikes . I dont tie my own flies yet but it seems to be must, I will have talk to my buddy about getting a good starter setup for tiing .
