Title: Alta Lake, June 8th 2010
Post by: Rodney on June 08, 2010, 10:35:11 PM
Nina and I had a lovely day fishing at Alta Lake (http://www.fishingwithrod.com/articles/region_two/alta_lake.html) this afternoon. We arrived at 1:00pm and were greeted with sunshine, light breeze, small surface chops and rising fish.

The bite was on pretty much right away as soon as we anchored. Nina had a take on the strike indicator with a chironomid that I tied but she missed it. Just as she was about to do another cast, we saw a good sized fish casually cruising around under the boat. The rest of the day was just as exciting. There were many missed on the indicator, a few hook-ups of sardine-sized rainbow trout, quite a few larger cutthroat trout and rainbow trout landed. Once the wind picked up a bit around late afternoon, I was fishing mostly with a clear intermediate sink, dragging a size 6 leech pattern and that was pretty effective with some nice cutthroat and rainbow trout up to 16 inches long landed.

There were many canoers and kayakers today, plus a few boats trolling and they were just as successful. By 7:00pm the wind had died off but so did the bites.
