Title: release
Post by: fisher man on May 22, 2010, 10:42:31 AM
Hi guys.I was at a local lake the other day and the poor cuttie literally engulfed my hook.I had a hard time getting it out and I'm sure i damaged him.I'm mostly a catch and release guy,but I'm sure the fish is not doing to good.I had pliers.Any advice when that happens i would like to do a better job so that doesn't happen again.I think i was losing patients and trying to quickly to get him back in the water, what is a good time for a fish to be out of the water.
Thanks in advance for any advice

if the fish has swallowed the hook it is best to just cut the line and retie another hook

Make sure your hook is barbless.  Get a hemostat...you can be far more delicate with these than with pliers.

Were you using bait?
