Has anyone tried crabbing from a canoe ?

smaller traps would be okay, pulling a heavy pot up on board would be tipsy :s

I take a 12' dingy out there, and it's pretty tipsy with a big catch unless we pull the traps up from the stern.

I've gone out in my 8' pram from Belcara with two guys in it. Not much free-board, and a little tipsy especially while battling a seal to get our trap back. As soon as I can afford a saltwater licence I'll be headed out again.

I thought you were only allowed crabbing on the months with "R" which are September to April... Which is far away. If im wrong please correct me i heard this from the license seller or something. If i'm wrong im happy because i can go crabbing again!

I have a 17 foot clipper and have done it many times, it is easier with 2 people but not a problem with 1 ,( i throw a heavy cooler in the front to keep the bow down if i am alone).. dumping the crab, in the boat is not a good idea get a bucket..
I have only done it on calm protected waters thou..

If you have paddling experience, go for it.  If not, good luck... it can be a "management" nightmare :)
