Title: battery for an electric motor

I picked up an older 10lb minn kota and was wondering what kind of battery I should pick up for it? I've been told a motorcycle battery. And for you guys out there who use these motors do you just throw them on the charger when you get home? the battery that is.

I usually bring a generator and charger with me out in the boat so I can always leave it running, then when I get home the battery is fully charged.  You can get a small 2500 watt generator at Princess Auto for fairly cheap, and Canadian Tire has little trickle chargers on sale for 40 bucks.

correct me if im Wrong but i think a deep cycle battery is best meant for what you want

Deep cycle for sure. A starting battery will wear out very quickly if you discharge it too much too often...like you would if you were using an electric motor.

any stores you'd recommend to buy a deep cycle battery? Im not a fan of shopping at Canadian tire

last  saturday  i picked up a deep cycle battery at costco 800+cold cranking power very good prices and selections ran all day sunday ,towed a buddy for 2hrs ,checked it on the battery meter lots power left ,worth the money  check it out 8)

Costco is a good place for batteries and sometimes so is walmart . A deep cycle is the right battery for the job . At both those stores they sell Johnson Control batteries , which are the same battery as Interstate .

I got my Trojan (supposed to be the best) Deep Cycle Battery from Battery World along with a charger.  System has worked well so far.  They are on Boundary Road near Grandview Hwy.  The guy who runs it knows alot about batteries and keeps them topped up all the time.

Trojans are great batteries. I run them in my bassboat but there almost twice the price of others. Wallyworld has the ENERGIZER batteries at about 100 a pop. Get the 27 series deep cycle.  If it says you can use for starting as well you have the wrong one.  Always charge after use, even if you only used half the power. One of the worse things you can do is let a battery sit around dead or half charged.  I have 4 energizers in my 26 footer and they have been great so far. There going on there third season this year.

  Ps. In my opinion stay away from INTERSTATE batteries, I had nothing but problems with them over the years, THERE JUNK.

get the marine grade deep cycle as they are stronger.

thanks for the info. I'm going to have to stop in and start pricing some out, just as long as Im set up for the may long weekend
