Post by: Blackgivesway2blue on March 17, 2010, 05:01:41 PM
tried with the fly rod today at Green Timbers, tried multiple flies and nothing (still trying to get my first fish on the fly  ;) ).  Guy beside me caught a 7-8lb broodstock.  Really nice day to be out fishing though ;D

Hey Blackgivesway

Just curious did he keep the fish or release it?
I don't really see any food value in these fish and not really sure why you would bonk one other than to take home to show the wife and kids the big fish you caught then throw it away.

He released it, he got it to the beach, quick picture, and let it swim away.

When I was out there on tuesday all 3 fish I saw caught were released...not worth eating but fun to catch. They put up a bit of a fight from what I saw. Much nicer than when you drag in those 250 gram bows lol

I arrived at the lake around 2:30 pm. no action on the pond anywhere...around 4pm the fish were rolling on the surface and that's when all 3 were landed, 2 on a fly and 1 on a 1/4oz spoon

it's possible, were you standing by the info board at the parking lot with a spin rod in hand? i pulled up in my friends white golf. otherwise i started fishing on the northern tip of the pond...that small pool.
I'll be there sometime tomorrow afternoon unless I go crabbing instead

I went for a walk around the lake today around 5pm ... it was like the fricken'  chilliwack river during spring season ! ... a lot people with heavy gear spinning rods , I picked up some line that was "birdnested" lyin on the shore , looked to be about 10-15lb test ! these fish have no chance lol ...

a couple throwin flies tho . didn't see any landed .

But it is obvious people have heard about the large broods that were stocked . or is it always lined with people on a weekend ? ..

I plan on going out tomorrow for a bit to get my flycasting arm back in shape for the season .

if it has been stocked and is warm and sunny then yes it can get very busy there, much the same as the other urban lakes. there has been the odd time when i have gone there and had no room to fish so just ended up chatting with some people i know there, then leaving.
